you are oh so very incorrect

...lol.

Anyways I recently got CS4, I didn't use a torrent though I just googled something like 'free photoshop' and found a download on some warez forum. I wouldn't mind getting CS5 but I'm wary when it comes to 'illegal' downloads.

Upgrading is so incredibly useless if you only want Photoshop for general use. I got CS5 when it came out and I still haven't found anything that you can do in CS5 that you can't do in CS4.

I don't have photoshop I have no use for it.

If graphics are just something you do in your spare time, why bother with Photoshop at all? GIMP should be more than sufficient for most of your needs if you're not planning to pursue graphics design as an actual career.

Well if you can spare an hour or two at most to get Photoshop running why not have it? I fail to see where sufficiency comes into art, I really do.

You get the satisfaction of saying you have CS5, obvs.

I find GIMP to be terrible in performance and features when compared to Photoshop, and I can say that because I have used both GIMP and Photoshop.

Would you say the same thing to hobbyists? They often spend large amounts of money in order to enjoy themselves in their spare time.

People like having fun, obviously. I know we live in a society that has been overrun by consumerism, but if people want to spend their money on something they enjoy, then that's their prerogative.

Zet! you're alive!

What's up?

I've never used Photoshop. But GIMP was pretty worthless for me. I was better off using MSPaint lol.

Ray.

I love you.

It depends on what you're doing really. Paint is sufficient for some things, but even doing art as a hobby does not mean that you need to limit yourself to what comes easiest, when the best is within your reach ie. Photoshop.

But it doesn't appeal to everyone. I for one, did not want to touch it when I had Gimp. Most people are like that until they try it however.

Gotta agree with Abnegation, when I had GIMP I never saw myself working with photoshop. After a bit of my friend harassing me about it though I gave in, and I can't say I'd ever go back to GIMP. Photoshop just has way more functionality and ease of use, once you get past the interface which won't take long.

The program is just a tool. :C You guys are arguing over synthetic paintbrushes and horsehair paintbrushes, basically. Or plastic spatulas versus Metal ones. :/ Same thing.
There's no harm in exploring new programs.. I could argue that you all should have Artrage (program) but I don't because graphics isn't about the tool :X It's about the vision.

gimp is crap on a mac. i just recently got adobe photoshop and illustrator for the purpose of interface editing (and maybe just MAYBE graphic design if i ever have the time to train myself. i'd love to turn my works digital, i'm just not used to maneuvering the software and i'd need to buy a tablet.) let me tell you, the adobe products have made my life a heck of a lot easier when it comes to screwing with my mac. but i was using pixen before i got photoshop, and it's so simple to use i'm having a hard time transitioning to adobe. it's useful (i made my dock icons with it) but doesn't cover all my needs like ps and illustrator do.

I have illustrator but I never use it @_@ I just find it hard to work with Vectors..
I've never used gimp, though .__. I'm not big on graphics but I like art :3
Before photoshop I used paint shop pro @_@ and it was very annoying to use..

also.. random but enjoyable:

Well I'm guessing a lot of the reasons people don't want photoshop is because of the cost/they don't want to pirate it (cause, y'know its illegal and all) while GIMP still offers some impressive features.
So photoshop may not be 'in your reach" as one of the posters said, because technically, it isn't free.
although it gets pirated time and time again
Although if you want to make the investment and enjoy digital art, then go for it.

I think we're just talking preference, Kura.

Nice work on that theme, Poopnoodle. I wish I could put the time in to create my own but I'm just too lazy.

To be honest, a lot of things are crap on a Mac. Most companies support Windows first since…you know, they kinda have a lot more people.

And I don't do art much, but I always use MSPaint instead of Paintbrush on Mac for simpler things. Paintbrush is too simplistic.

y'know, you're speaking jargon to me xD cassino tried explaining vectors to me, went straight over my head. i ought to start studying this stuff, because graphic design is something i'm really interested in and i think i have the potential to be good at.

hahaha, that's incredible. i'll have to snow this image to the employees at starbucks (i go there way too often @_@)
