I don't know how it is in your state, but algebra is a requirement for simply graduating high school in California (or in my county at least). In fact, I've been told the UCs don't even teach algebra; as a college freshman, you start off in calculus A or, if you've taken calculus BC AP in HS, calculus B or C. You're expected to know algebra in college; if not, you get put into remedial classes which don't even count towards credits (again, just for the UCs far as I know).

HA! SPED!

No, you won't get harassed by me for being in a sped class, despite my first "sentance" in this post. There are different levels of special ed in my school; there are those who just might need some help understanding things they've learned in class better, or may need to be redirected into doing their work =/

anyways, yeah, there are 2 levels of it in my school; there are the hardcore speds who might might have a severe learning disability to be accounted for in their learning, then just a regular "Learning center" class for the rest of the "sped" (Learning center=hardly sped) kids who might be all there, and able to pick up what is said in class on their own. LC replases your free block in the day.

I was never in sped. I was in a flex program once in my old school for a year because of some personal issues I had that year, and wasn't getting work done. that year, they put me in a learning center class towards the beginning of the year, and realized I could get my work done, I justs chose not to =/

after that, they just moved me over into a "wellness flex" class during free period for other kids who were emotionally effed up, like I was at the time xD

Anyways, yeah, an algebra class is still required. It's just at a lower level for other people who might be in sped =/

Basically, you learn the same thing, just at a slower, less challenging pace.

I'm in a living skills program now so its not really sped anymore. XD
 
Technically, Advanced Placement and Honours programs are considered a form of special ed. They're just at the opposite end of the academic spectrum from the popular definition of special ed.
 
Mmhm. I've been classified as gifted, and before they changed the wording, it said "special ed" on my report cards. Now it's something else; I dunno because I switched out of the school that offered gifted classes and they just don't care in university. :P

There's some sort of national law that requires all public educational institutions to have some sort of support for such students with special needs, so I'm sure they'll have a program of some kind.

Pretty much, yeah.

And as for being mildy autistic, it's really hard to say because it actaully varies.

That makes it confusing if they classified that as special ed before. There's only one of those type of classes at our school, ESOL. There's nothing at the higher end of the spectrum but I assume that's because our school's so small...
 
I am only taking Business studies this year and resitting some of the tests I failed last year.
Was my first day back today.
 
Ok, here's a list of what I'm doing.
Honours Irish, Honours English, Honours Maths, French, Music, Woodwork, History, Geography, CSPE, SPHE, PE and Religion.
 
I never would have those kind of choices at year 11. Maybe you just live in a different part of Ireland than me..?

I've got:

  • Algebra
  • AAS (Advanced Academic Stratagies... I think)
  • French II
  • LUNCH 8D
  • English
  • IPC (Integrated Physics and Chemistry)
  • Football

Yep. And after my fourth we have advisory, which is really just 30 minutes of nothing, but it's cool, I sleep. XD

IPC sounds hard. XP

Advisory sounds awesome, here we call those thingies free periods, they last 35 minutes.
 
I have 2 free periods a day and they each 1 hour long. I also only go to school for 4 days a week.
