Why not try out the rom hacks created by Crizzle? They have a fair share of darkness. Also, try out the Dark Rising series created by DarkRisingGirl. I hope you'll find yourself satisfied with the dark and creepiness. Also, why not try Snakewood? It's a Ruby hack.

I don't recommend Dark Rising. The first one, at least, is extremely dated, full of glitches, and very poorly balanced.
