I'm sure many of us have run into this message on more than one occasion ─ those not on staff anyway. I made a little joke about this in a blog entry I posted late last year about it, and the possibility of having it removed for community supporters was brought up. I've always understood why the VM flood limit has been enabled for regular members, however, what if we were to actually have it disabled for supporters and/or possibly members with a certain number of posts? The former likely being a better option as to not encourage newer members to spam post around the forums, but still an open option to consider nonetheless.

I doubt members who have donated to the forums are going to go around spamming members with ads or anything similar to other members on their profile every second they have. The same could be said about those who have actively spent their time on the forums for a number of months/years as well. And from experience and as someone who enjoys VM'ing other members around the forum, it's no fun having to wait intervals of 45 seconds just to respond to multiple VMs, especially when it catches you by just a few seconds. I can only imagine what it's like for those who are frequently VM'ing multiple members back and forth at the same time.

Long story short, is there a chance we can remove the VM flood limit for those who have donated to the forum? What about the idea of removing it after a certain number of posts similar to the 15 post rule before posting links and pictures?

We'll be one step closer to world peace after this, I'm sure. Haha!

Being a Supporter myself, I do "support" this.

Since I became Supporter, I have been pretty popular and finding myself getting a new VM every 2 seconds or so, it happened a lot today and I was so tired of seeing that message every time I tried to respond to a VM.

I would like some change to this implemented. VMs are my main method of talking with others here, unless if the member in question disabled their VMs (I don't talk to them anyway) not to mention I've almost been here for 2 years, and an active member.

So yeah, I definitely would like to see this changed.

I'm all for it. Given that donations and activity prove loyalty in someway, I think that it'd be a nice perk. It seems fair to me, anyway.

I prefer post count status over supporter status for this honestly. But since the reasoning is to slow down adbots (I think?), it makes sense to disable it for those we're reasonably sure aren't adbots - those that posted 100 times around the forum for example. Not too much as to be really daunting, but enough that people won't think they can spam their way there and adbots won't pursue it.

This would really work out. Since I mostly open all the threads that I usually post in and when I'm done with one thread I move to the other, but I gotta wait for 45 seconds ^^'

But as of now, I haven't seen much people that deliberately WANTS to spam. Or maybe I'm just too new?

wynaut for tier two or tier three and above, supporters dont have to deal with this annoying time limit anymore? jeez

im one of the most talkative people everyone knows and i would really love it if the time limit was not to say removed but erm.... idk how to say it ._.

or at least remove the limit for those who have hit 1000 posts and above or something like that

I don't think VM spamming will be such a huge issue for the forum; I'm all for removing the limit and at least giving this a try. The option to revert back is always there if anything goes wrong, too, and the possibility of giving certain tiers/people with a certain post count is an open door as well. I'm in favor of trusting our members and giving them the chance to prove themselves instead of keeping things away because the bad possibility is there. Maybe not for members with zero posts (because bots), but perhaps for those who have 100 or more, as Toujours suggested. :3

But if you make members with high post counts able to post without any time limit, wouldn't it encourage spammers to get to that number of post the sooner as possible they can?

Mods and higher staff are really good at clearing out spammers. I highly doubt a spammer will get to more than 10 posts before they're taken care of. :) I've never seen a spammer get to the link-posting limit even at 15 posts.

only as much as it encourages people to get 15 posts and spam links i would think.
    i'm all for it.
and make sure the post number requirement is below my total number of posts.

Well if the staffs got a good eye for spammers, then I'm all for it :)

I can assure you no real spambot will bother getting 100 posts, and if they do, I can assure you they'll be caught before their 20th post.

Take into accout that they'd still have flood limits as well :P

    I don't think VM spamming will be such a huge issue for the forum;
As far as I can recall, VM spamming has never been a big issue compared to the spambots who make threads around the fourms or send private messages to numerous members.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with at least TRYING to remove the count for everything - post comments, and posts. Worse case scenario is people flood, and then the time frame can be reinstated.
Exactly this. I would think removing the limit for reporting and forum searches wouldn't be such a bad idea either while we're at it. I've never understood why forum searches have a time frame limit anyway.

I also agree with those who say spambots are more than likely going to be caught before they reach a certain number of posts, and a hundred is more than enough should it not be exclusive to just supporters.
