Haven't read Magi, myself; I'm following the anime of it and I'm not too sure how far apart they are. Though I don't know how long I really want to see the anime become...

I mean, I don't really mind since I'm up to date, but I'm starting to think that this is turning into one of those cases where, had I waited until after it finished completely, I probably wouldn't have gotten into it at all.

The new Magi chapter and arc really illuminates a lot of the back story. Poor Solomon, falling prey to typical tribalism mentality.

Although I find the backstory interesting, I also hope it ends soon and gets back to the main cast. There's just too much talking, which is something I don't enjoy in an action shounen. If I want something with a lot of dialogue I'll reread Death Note or Bakuman.

I don't mind the talking in Magi. One of its early strengths was that it didn't have an emphasis on actiony action, which is why the Cassim (post-stab) battle caught a little flak, it was too textbook. Instead, it focused on being fun and adventurous, which is a lot of what drew me to the series to begin with, and I don't really mind the shift to character-focus, because they're pretty well crafted.

I do that with anime. Pick random anime from my anime downloader with hilarious or interesting tags. Generally, it's for joking sake, but I find some good shows every now and then (like Tenjou Tenge...well, that's my only example).

But I find I'm more attracted to manga physically, it just feels nice, be it bought or from the library :q

I love using the "Surprise Me" button on Mangapanda and finding really good obscure manga (particularly shoujo and one-shots) that no one's heard of. It's a lot of fun~
