Ooh. They don't really mention it, but Kirito using a virtually weightless lightsaber instead of the strength-based weapons (read: swords with weight behind them) he's used to seems to make an actual difference in this particular fight. So far it's been shrugged off even though it'd be quite a big deal in a real scenario, but here it's allowing the opponent (who's way cooler than Kirito) to very successfully use a light but hardy weapon against him; had GGO allowed for heavy melee weapons, and had our harem protagonist used one, he could've easily overpowered his foe who wouldn't be able to properly parry his blows. Instead, as the lightsaber blade has no weight (horrible for a sword, it relies completely on its ability to cut which makes it useless against harder materials), the foe parries it with ease. I don't know if the author actually thought of this, but if he did I'm giving him credit. Most anime writers certainly don't think very far on these subjects.
Now I'm just sad because the sword the bad guy used in SAO looked like a kriegsmesser. That's a way cooler weapon than what most people in this show see using. Would've liked to see it in action.
I did it guys. I'm enjoying (certain moments of) SAO!
