Do post counts matter to you?

Do post counts really matter to you?

I dont care about my post count really.
To me it's a number I only look at occasionally. Sometimes I'll look at it and go 'Oh yay! I'm past the x post mark' and move on.

Post count only shows how active you are. If you have a high post count, it's because you were a super active poster at some point in time. In all honesty, people with about...( 3000 posts times the number of years they've been registered) are the ones who generally try to put some thought in their posts. If you have more than that, then you probably had a post-count whoring stage. (unless you're part of the higher staff)

Generally, I like to put a bit of thought into each post, and If I think a thread is pointless or stupid I simply dont post there.

Maybe, because it shows how active you are. I maybe be competitive, but not to the point of posting pointless stuff like some people did. O.O

It used to a bit more than it does now, but now, I definitely don't care for it much. I mean, it's nice to have a decent amount of posts. But sometimes when I look at other people and their high post count, I get intimidated. xP

It's kind of hard for me to get my post count higher because I don't post as much as half the people here. That's because I only post where I feel comfortable. So, a lot of the time I'm just a lurker. =[

Nope! :D
Unless, it's something with privileges like erm, unable to post URL and such.

I do care a little bit. I like upping my post count and adding to the community but I don't really mind...
I am trying to get a nice high post count though so I suppose I do...

I think it shouldn't matter.
But I think the postcount/Reputation ratio is relatively meaningful.
I mean, I only post if what I'm about to say hasn't been said 60 times.

But what REALLY pisses me off is that in order to claim songs, you need 500+ posts (last time I checked-- it may have changed)
Again, it really shouldn't matter.

It only mattered to me a little when they decided to add the 100-post requirement for bishie claiming. Since I'm past that, I don't even look at my count. I didn't care about post count in years/accounts past, either.

Members are usually judged on how many posts they have made because by looking at there Join date and then Number of posts in proportion you can an idea of how active they are but a lot of people lurk more than post.
There is a lot of Elitism on PC like other Forums so it is a factor to show how "big" you are here.
So I think about it when deciding to post as it does make one look better but as a tier 5 I am hawt without it. =P
I never use to care or post a lot, I was just here for hacking and then graphics but after enjoyed just being part of the forum a lot.

Lol.
Post count provides the um.. foundation to any forum really.
I mean, especially as a forum starts to get larger.
If a forum doesn't have post count, then it's not really a forum, because chances are the members know each other like the backs of their hands, seeing has their is no real reason to stay and post.

..I hope that made sense, it made sense in my head.

I usually think about the join date before the post count. Someone who's here longer seems to know more to me rather than someone who has 1k+ posts and has only been here a month or two, IMO.

No. I don't care. I agree with Nick totally on this one.
I do personally find it cool if it reachs a certain number, and I may screenie, but that is as much caring as I get.

They do somewhat. Larger numbers usually indicate that the member has been around for a while and is an experienced member. Smaller posts indicate either a lurker or a new member. Perhaps the former will have experience, but not to the extent of someone who posts a lot.

The large numbers though, like anything past 1,000, I feel that it shows that you're a true member of the forum and wont just vanish within a week or month of joining... which is why I'm not a frequenter of the newbie lounges at most of my forums unless they're people I know from other places.

I agree with what Nick said. It was a while ago now, but nonetheless. :>

I don't believe post counts are important. Like many other members, it's much more about the quality of the post than the number of posts you have for me. Post counts sometimes can't show you how active a person is.

As a moderator, a lot of people will assume that because I don't have a large post count, I'm inactive and don't deserve my job, yadda yadda yadda. But that's an inaccurate view as the boards I post in and mod don't count posts in your actual post count - if we did, my god. Everyone would post there and their post counts would be through the roof. XD;

...But really, I do know some people who are obsessed with postcount, in a forum where you get rank ups for getting your postcount up. *cough*
Heh. I knew right away what forum you were talking about. XD;

Since I got my start on forums on that one, I used to think post counts were a big deal. Back in the day, I was posting often enough that I was known by a lot of people, since I was all over the place. I wanted that big number to get noticed for some reason.

Then, as I joined other forums like this one, my thoughts started to change. I noticed that I was getting known not for how active I was and how many posts I could make a day, but by what my posts said. People looked up to me more because I showed that I knew what I was talking about. And getting noticed for that rather than what I said meant more to me.

These days, I just post around because I'm bored and need things to do. I also don't post all over the place now, just in a few sections. Also only post in threads that interest me, so I can say more than just a few words. Again, it's the whole worth of each post rather than the total amount of posts.

And now I feel like mentioning the worth of a cow compared to the worth of a word. :<

Ack. Forgot to add that I don't even notice when I hit a random lol-worthy number. It's all just kind of "meh" for me.

Not really, because if they did, I'd be posting in all sections.
And I'd probably gripe about the fact that they are not counted for certain sections. But I don't.
Plus, I bet that quite a few people have spammed their way up to a high post count.
Also, take a look at the banned user, "The Post Count". They were going to spam as much as possible, to get a high post count.
