Do you ever go back to old Pokemon games

As the title says, I was wondering if I am the only one who goes back to an old Pokemon back, just to relive some memories, or simply cos you liked something specifically about the game.

I am not talking about challenges or replaying the game. I sometimes go to the old games, everything from Pokemon Yellow to new games, just to visit a place, or listen to some music, or even idk, to check what Pokemon I had back there.

What about you? If you do this, what exactly are you visiting when you play an older game?

I went back to play Crystal when I had my copy of Platinum, and went to play Gold a few months ago. I really like the 2nd Generation, so it's usually a good idea for me to play a 2nd Gen game. Usually, when I revisit an older game, the save file's already finished, so all I do is catch the legendary Pokemon I've forgotten to catch (a very frequent issue with me in G/S/C, cos I don't know how to catch the beasts easily).

Yes, I do go back to play older games. Just because they're no longer current-gen doesn't mean you should stop enjoying them, really; they're still unique in their own, respective way, and I believe they could still provide you with as much entertainment as others. Of course, some of these Pokémon games might have something that you're personally not too fond of (for me, it would be graphics and mechanics of generation one and two; wasn't very critical at first, but began to grow a bit of dislike for them once gen three of games had been introduced), but if it were me, I'd try my best to not allow that to disrupt myself from playing and enjoying.

One Pokémon game that I constantly find myself to keep playing over and over would have to be Emerald. Regardless of how much I go through it, it just never seems to get tiring for me, thankfully. Within the last five to six years, I've played this game from start to finish (storyline-wise) for about twelve different times. That's a lot, isn't it? Though, I'm currently attempting to stay away from it for now; since ORAS is right around the corner, so I'd like all excitement I have to be saved for them, so to speak.

Aside from Emerald, I'm also quite a huge fan of Pokémon Platinum, which I've played through for around six times in total. After this, comes HeartGold and SoulSilver.

I go back constantly! Not just to play through it again, although I definitely do enough of that too, but sometimes just going back to some of my favorite places and seeing all my old pokemon can put me in such a happy mood. I didn't play as long as I'm assuming most people have; I wasn't there from the beginning, for every new release, etc. I'm relatively a very newbie player. However, each game that I have played holds very dear memories to me that I'll always treasure and reminisce on, I believe. I don't really see myself growing out of that, at least not anytime soon!

Floaroma Town was my first ever 'favorite town' in the games, so I like to frequent that little spot. Verdanturf Town in Emerald has some of the most soothing, gorgeous music I've ever heard in a video game, even if it is relatively outdated. It's just the little things like that. They make me really happy.

Oh god yes haha. I constantly go back and play Emerald and Crystal. I've probably played each over 50 times now or more :s. I'll go back and play the others on occassion as well, but those two I play much more often! As Ashley said; just because they aren't current doesn't take away from the value of playing the games!

Awesome, Im not alone at this :D

Ah I am glad Im not alone with Crystal. It's funny because I love both Yellow and Crystal. And I actually love their graphic. ESPECIALLY Crystal at night, when everything is dark and you can clearly see the light coming out from the windows.

    Agreed :D
Same thing with me and Emerald, the only reason why I dont go there so often now is cos of ORAS, I want to put it aside for a while and "forget" hoenn so I can get the same feeling with ORAS as I had with Emerald when I first played it :D

I occasionally play the old games on an emulator. Controlling the character with a 360 controller on a big screen tv is too epic to pass up. I grew up with the 1st and 2nd gens so I still play them for nostalgia purposes. Damn now I wanna play Crystal!

It's great to see someone who feels the same. =) Emerald's a fantastic game, and is definitely worth playing over and over. For now, though, we just have to limit ourselves and try staying away.

Well, I've only been playing Pokemon since 2012, so I don't necessarily "go back" to the older games, but I still enjoy the older games I have. I can play LeafGreen as long as X any day. The older games, especially Gen III, are great for Challenges/Nuzlockes.

Yeah I used to go back to gsc all the time and just walk around for music and graphics. It's scary to me how nostalgic those games are for me. I get such a weird feeling when I go back to them. No matter how good the sprites got after that generation or just the graphics in general I prefer those sprites and graphics. Sometimes I wish I could play a new game with all gsc style sprites. Also I have a special place in my heart for 8 bit music.

I haven't really played RBY or GSC in a long time. I still have my Emerald version, but sadly its internal battery ran dry recently (I think). I do have my main copies of Platinum and White 2 which have a lot of stuff on them. Sometimes I like to play them casually (particularly the latter) just for typical enjoyment.

Yes! I do replay my games a lot, but I also check up on the games I promised myself I would never restart because they have so much stuff on them. I sometimes get tempted to move all of my Pokémon to another game in that gen (like all my mons on Emerald to Ruby/Sapphire, etc.) but I never follow through with it, mostly because I'm lazy and trading Pokémon in the older games takes a whole millennium lol.

    Ahh Generation 2...

Goldenrod at night is nostalgia at it's finest.

Pokemon Yellow is on my USB-stick, ready to be played anytime I like. Mostly, I just walk around the towns, talking to people, just absorbing that enormous sense of atmosphere these games brings.

My favorite is the second generation, and since I'm a ROM-hacker, I'm constantly trying to gather ideas on how to improve the game by any necessary means. Combining the atmosphere of the 1st generation, with the technology and scripting improvements of the 2nd one, I personally believe will create an IMMENSE gameplay out of this world.

1st generation, 2nd generation, 3rd generation. I play them all. But since the 4th generation, the transition to 3D turned me off. Some called it an "improvement", but I do prefer the simplicity of the first 3 generations. Tilesets and sprites. Simplicity and stylishness over "modern graphics". Also I didn't enjoy the new EV formula and natures that was introduced in GENIII.

I even bought a Gameboy and had it designed and painted Pokemon style to play those games that I loved. RGY, GSC and the like. I really love the retro games, and I feel that they're a league apart from the games that we have now. Sure, fancy new graphics, new Pokemon and battle mechanics overhauls are all great, but there are some things that I keep going back to the old games for. Topping the list would be the music, especially one that comes out from the soundchip of an authentic Gameboy. Also, the difficult level. With the new generation games, a solo run with your starter is entirely possible and not really challenging, but the levels of trainers, gym leaders and the champion actually allowed for a challenge, where even though it was still not very challenging, required a certain amount of skill and dedication to beat the game.

Yup, I restart games all the time. Most recently I replayed SoulSilver and Black 2, which were both great. :) Sometimes I get bored of games, however, like the original Mystery Dungeons or FRLG so I won't go back and replay them, but I replay Black 2, Diamond, and PMD2 a lot! When I have time, at least, or when I don't have other games I want to complete for the first time. They're still fun the second+ time!

I am currently splitting time between White 2 and X.

The former because Unova is my fave region and my Black 2 save file corrupted so I wanted to play through White 2 so I can hopefully build back up where I fell. And X because I always play the latest generation as well. So as you can say, I do occasionally go back to older games when I'm bored.
