Except you never hear ラ, リ, ル, レ, or ロ pronounced as "la", "li", "lu", "le", or "lo" respectively. It always comes out as "ra", "ri", "ru", "re", or "ro".
you do hear the l's, its just that the r's are more distinctive.

English is the most confusing. You have the Great Vowel Shift, not to mention it comes from many different types of languages. Celtic, Romance, Germanic...

Norse = Germanic, although I thought it was Celtic? /Wiki's saying it's Germanic, but w/e

So yeah. Those are the three major types of languages that the English language stole from.

Really, now. /it was only a month but we did learn a bit

So if Norse helped develop the Celtic language, then it indirectly contributed to our language.
