drinking age should be 18

I used to think like that too...when i was 18. it all changes when a person turns 22 (depending) cause its just all downhill from there. I did my share of drinking before i was 21, and did a whole lot more when i did turn 21, and I drove. Im 24 now and i think what i did back then was really stupid.

drinking shouldn't be lowered to 18. god only knows how many more alcoholics and car crashes and the like that would happen. and the insurance, *whistles* us drivers would be paying a whole lot more.
 
As everyone else pointed out, the human brain isn't fully developed until about 21 years of age...so it makes perfect sense to keep the law there. Then again, you can also drive at 16 (but it's probably 2 different parts of the brain or something, no idea - someone give me a reason for this).

Also, contrary to the OP, "most" people are not drinking before they're 21. It's a minority - a minority you hear about a lot, but a minority nonetheless.
 
I have no problems with 21 being the legal drinking age. If you try to lower the age, you'll have Mothers Against Drunk Driving on your case. Leave it be and if you want to drink, there's this place called Mexico that you can go and get drunk, but you'll have to risk being shot at by drug cartels if you want a shot of tequila.

I believe that's not so much a law as something you really don't stand much of a chance of getting in trouble for. I mean, what are the police going to do, spy on you and raid the area when they drink something that looks like alcohol to them?

If your parents let you get drunk, like idiots, then they might get caught. I mean, it's not exactly easy to pretend your kid isn't drunk if someone happens to come along and question it.

I'm pretty sure that's a Wisconsin law, since it can be done in restaurants, but not on public property, in the presence of one's legal guardians. I do know that is not the case here in Minnesota, though.
 
It used to be 18, but people weren't mature enough to handle it. There were high school kids showing up drunk.

I hope you mean that it was in sizable numbers, because a couple people in my high school graduating class showed up to school drunk or high a couple different times, so the practice by no means has stopped.

I mean y'know, I can act all intolerant about what I think is right too but that doesn't mean anything now does it.

That's awful. I've been to bad schools and I've been to good schools and I've never seen one person that gave me any reason to think they were drunk. Just sayin'.
 
In a way, making 18 the legal age for drinking makes sense because you're mature enough to not abuse it in large amounts. But I think why it's not in is because as you get older, your liver's ability to process alcohol gets better.

I think the main problem is society's views on drinking. It's like the moment you turn 18 (Or 21 for most of you) "YAY, you can go out and get smashed now!" and before that it's like "I can't wait till I'm 18(21) so I can go out and legally get smashed" Well, that's what it's like here. Personally, I don't drink but the amount of people who come to work hungover and the way they talk about it can't be good.
Also, mature at 21...? Psh...

I don't know, I think making the drinking age in some countries to 18 while they have a driver's license at the same time might be a bad idea. Even here a lot of drink driving accidents is done by people aged 18-24 if I recall correctly.

Besides, alcohol tastes horrible, why would you even want to drink it?

Cough syrup tastes horrible too, but people still drink that. Why? It's because of the drug that's in it, Alcohol. (Or in Cough Syrup's case, Dextromethorpan)
 
The drinking age here (and in most of Europe) is 18 as well, although I'd be fine with getting people to start drinking by then... most kids start drinking around 13 or so >_>
 
It's 18 in Brazil, but you can see children getting drunk way before this age.
 
I think the legal age and the age you're legally able to consume alcohol should be the same. Personally, I feel better with both being 21.
 
Like I care what the legal age is, when you can buy and drink where ever you want!
At least it is that way in Europe, not sure bout america or asia, though...
 
You know what I find disturbing? That the minimum age for "weak" alcoholic drinks in Belgium is 16.... Cocktails, Breezers... thing tastes like lemonade and people drink it like lemonade... Low Alcohol rate or not, if you drink litres of it (as a manner of speaking), it has the same effect as a high Alcohol rate, which is legal at 18.
I heard this from my father, who works at the emergency service in a hospital, and he gets tons of minors who are more than just drunk.

I wouldn't mind if the legal age of drinking would become 21. =/
I don't drink myself... so I wouldn't be affected. I enjoy a glass of Ice Tea much more than any kind of alcohol-containing beverage I tasted. : <
Many people at the age of 16 don't have the responsability to keep their alcohol consuming behaviour in control. Too much peer pressure etc.
 
Why are you so hurry to drink alcohol anyway?
In Poland - no problem - 18 is the drinking age.
After 18 I can do anything what is moral.
I drink alcohol as often as I go to church.
That's why I'm getting soft so quickly, while drinking.
