Driver's Licence

    So, I got my learner's permit yesterday, and I feel great. I was nervous when I took the test, and I had to guess a few times, but I passed with 83%. So I can finally drive legally now, as long as I have my mom with me in the car. Oh well, that's a whole lot better than where I was. I'll get my license in September when I turn 16, and that's starting to seem like an eternity to wait. :(

    I know in some states, like Idaho, you can get your permit when you're 14. I don't know how they do it in other countries. So my question is this: What were some of your experiences when you first got behind a steering wheel? Were you nervous the first time you drove on a highway?
     
    lol I used to be scared when a car rode pass me so for a long time I didn't drive near the yellow lines which caused me to drive off the road a lot trying to avoid cars coming in the opposite direction. My mom taught me to drive closer to the yellow line and that the other drivers wouldn't hit me lol

    Even though I haven't got my permit yet, and I could since October, but, I still drove before. My mom's ex...ex...ex xD boyfriend when I was like 9 let me drive his car. I did really good if almost crashing it into 4 other cars isn't that bad. o.o

    Yes, I was most definitely nervous when I first got my permit. I still am, but not as much as I used to be. As you learn more, you start to feel more comfortable about it. I haven't been driving all that often lately since I've been busy with other things. I do drive whenever it's possible. I'm going to get my full license around April, since that's around the time that my year of driving with a parent is going to be over. I can't say I'm all that excited about it; I mean it's not that big of a deal to me.
     
    I'm not quite old enough to get my learner's permit yet (you have to be sixteen on Ontario), but that's not to say I've never driven a car before.

    My first experience behind the wheel was on my grandfather's lap when I was about seven years old. He had an old, worn-down Tracker that he'd let me scoot around out in the field with. He'd be in control of the gas and the brakes (my legs were too short), but I was the one driving. I think I was a little too carefree to be nervous back then, so I can't say it was a bad experience.

    I've driven many vehicles since than, be it through an open field, some back roads, etc. Obviously, I'm a little more careful about driving than I was back then. I'm still excited to get my permit, though.
     
    I have so much to say about my learning experience that I don't even know where to start, haha. But this entire year has more or less focused on me learning how to drive. It was...difficult, I never felt nervous about being behind the wheel, it was just polishing up most of my manoeuvres that I had such a tough time with. I failed my first driving test for going slightly over the speed limit, which I still thought was ridiculous. I was quite sure I failed my next test when I mounted the kerb, but it turned out that I actually passed and all my efforts really did pay off. I don't think I've ever felt as nervous as I did during the days I had those tests, but knowing I can drive freely and independently now has given me such a great feeling of satisfaction.

    I know in South Dakota you can start DRIVING *alone* at age 14 and a half.

    Im 14 atm, and me no have liscene. :(
     
    Don't be nervous or anything. I know it is hard to believe now. But when your instructor and parents say "It'll all become instinct and reflexes, you won't even think about it."--it's true. I was nervous when I drove at first but now I don't even think twice.
     
    In Australia, you can get a Learner's permit at the age of 15 and 9 months. Usually most schools have "Road Ready Tests" so people get their learner's permit this way. I was younger than most of my grade, (by one whole year) so I didn't get my license 'til year 12. But still then, me being a big procastinator, I didn't bother to get my license 'til the year after. I would say I only got my license because my parents were going overseas, so they needed someone to drive around and do the errands. But now I see that having my license is pretty good actually. But eh, learning to drive, well.. XD My dad taught me how to drive, it was nuts. This is the man who in order to teach me how to ride a 2 wheeler bike, used a big ol' stick to chase me and used the technique of fear to get me to ride a bike. XD;; Well, luckily he didn't do the same with teaching me how to drive, though he was more patient with me, still rather nerve racking. I was never nervous behind the steering wheel, I was more worried on the fact because I was a learner, other drivers around me would be impatient. I didn't have much ugly run in's with other drivings, except for one time these people drove past me screaming and scared me, so when we got to the next traffic lights, my dad started yelling at them. XD

    But yeah, driving is pretty awesome, most people don't do it because of fear. But everyone has to overcome their fears and learning to drive is worth it.
     
    Well, here in Spain, you must be 18, so... I just got the right to :x
    I'll wait until I finish this year in the University, so I'll go pass the test next June. Even if I don't have a car, nor I'm planning to get one soon, having the license in case of need is always good.

    thats very true, and if u study the test will be too easy. Im not of age yet but my Dad taught me how to park and bring it out and such
     
    Driving tests aren't as bad as you make them up to be. I got my license despite blatantly failing to parallel park correctly.
     
    I just passed my road test yesterday. When I first go my permit two years ago, I was nervous when I started driving around the parking lot at my church. However I was able to quickly gain the confidence to drive on the regular roads.
     
    After learning on and off for about two years, I passed my driving test in October. In England, you can get your provisional (learner) license at age 17 and then you have to pass a theory test and the ever-so-difficult practical test. Most people get manual licenses here.

    I've not driven by myself yet xD What I can say is though, get loads of practice, and find a really good driving instructor (it's especially good if you aren't bothered about cost - my instructor was the best in the area but quite expensive). Get your own car to practice in. And for god's sake, do it faster than me, but do it as and when you're comfortable xD

    I'm good at driving, but I'm not a confident driver, if that makes sense. I live out in the sticks but I still insist on taking the bus to and from work!

    My sister just got her Learner's Licence. She passed the test first try, but had to go two times at the driving portion. I hope I do better!
     
    Yeah and that's another thing: Don't worry about the test either. I didn't even really have to parallel park.

    I was never really nervous about driving, I always was just calm about it, then only thing I had trouble with was crossing over multiple lanes of traffic, but now I am comfortable with it.
     
    I started to learm to drive a little while a go. I also practise in my own car and one thing I can say is it costs so much to run a car. I used to think the money I got from my part time job was good. Now a vast majority of my money goes on my car and I have to have a seriously insane budget one everything.

    But it so much fun. I was nervous the first 5 minutes but it isn't as hard as it looks. Only part that bothers me is constant mirror checking.
