Each Series Gets Shorter Each Time

Say, has anyone noticed how each series of the Pokemon anime has fewer episodes every time?

We have the first series, which was 274 episodes.
Advanced Generation, which was 192 episodes.
Diamond & Pearl, which was 191 episodes.
Best Wishes, which was 142 episodes.
So far, XY is 113, ongoing.

I'm wondering, since S&M are coming out in the holidays, do you think XY(Z) will end up being longer than BW or shorter than it, what do you guys think? I've been pondering it for awhile, since each anime series seems to be getting shorter each time. Asking why would be redundant, but if you want to answer why you think this may be, go ahead.

Honestly, I feel like the series are getting shorter due to the games being released faster, and if I counted my weeks right, we probably have somewhere between forty weeks before S/M come out, so X/Y might be longer than BW... unless, you know, the anime ends early, but it probably won't.

I think XY runs up until at least release time for the games. That will probably be October at the earliest (just speculation based on when other Worldwide releases have happened, though it's more likely they'll release sometime in November given the Holiday 2016 date announced), which is 29 weeks away. That would run us to 142 episodes assuming the last XY episodes airs the last week in September, assuming this week's episode has already aired (no idea if it has or not).

As it stands, it looks like it will be very close in length to all of the Best Wishes arcs combined, more likely than not coming in slightly longer than Best Wishes.

I agree with Don. I think at this rate XY will likely end its series with a few more episodes than BW did at the time that series finished. That's just my thoughts though.

I concur as well, I think the XY series will run just a little bit longer than the BW series partly because I think there is just a little bit more for them to do in Kalos than Unova. I'm thinking it'll end up right around 150-155 episodes

If Kalos is some how connected together, there is likely to be a few more episodes. We know the season will end in about October or November in Japan. There might still be a filler arc for the anime between the generations. As we usually get the games before the anime continues to that region. I am certain it will be longer. With maybe a filler season, if the anime continues.

They said at the very start before Best Wishes even started, that the Best Wishes Saga would last for 3 years, shorter than the other seasons.

Just FYI, the episodes come out on Thursday in Japan.

To be fair, the only reason the first series was so long was because Johto was combined with the first generation. If the writers knew what they do now, Johto would have been a separate series with a new female companion and clothes for Ash, etc.

Had a new female character existed at the beginning of Gold/Silver, Misty likely would have been axed after Orange Islands.
