4th Gen Early Game Pokemon

The Mareep line really isn't that popular its only popular in GSC... The Shinx and Pikachu lines both outclass it and so do Electric legends like Raikou and Zapdos.

Well, we can't expect the early Pokémon to be at high levels seeing as the game has only started, which makes sense. Also, Mareep was able to be caught a bit early before, so it could happen again.

Yeah, they were available right after the 1st gym.

I liked having the choice of 3 bird Pokemon early on. (Spearow, Hoothoot, and Pidgey.) I could always go with a different one when I do a new game. Besides, a lot of Johto Pokemon can learn better moves now. For example, Hoothoot(in Platinum learned:) Tackle, Growl, Foresight, Hypnosis, Peck, Uproar, Reflect, Confusion, Take Down, Air Slash, Zen Headbutt, Extrasensory, Psycho Shift, Roost, and Dream Eater. If you started off with Chikorita, you could catch a Goldeen w/ Old Rod in Union cave next to Azalea if you didn't want a bird type yet. Goldeen knew Peck. The Pokemon were good the way they were, because you could experiment using them and saw which ones you liked. However, I wouldn't have minded getting a Teddiursa or an Aipom sometime earlier in the game. But then again, Aipom didn't have an evolution at the time so it didn't really matter. I didn't mind catching Teddiursa or Phanpy later on, because I saved them for when I went to Kanto.

Well Ampharos won't be getting a change in type as it is a little to late for that. Yeah, Mareep is in a good place to be caught, along with the other Pokémon. I just want to see more Johto Pokémon replace Kanto so it'll feel like the Johto region from the start.

Yeah Pichu is really popular and will be even more popular with the notched ear and Pika-colored ones coming out. They might get new moves, too...

And if anything... Ampharos should be Electric/Dragon. Its japanese name means Electric Dragon (literally).

Actually Phanpy was able to be caught in the field next to Violet City in the Crystal version. That really helped against Falkner and Bugsy since it learned Rollout and its strong enough to last all through the game.

I highly doubt they would make Ampharos a Electric/Dragon type. It's already just a electric type so they should just leave it like that.

Anyways I would like Aipom to be catchable a bit earlier than usual.

^ Shuckle wouldn't be added early because it'll be found under rocks, I think that is how it went. So, rock smash will be needed, which won't be available that early. So, it won't make much sense having it too early.

Yeah I was just saying if Ampharos should be dual type it should be Dragon and not anything else. But they will definitely not change its typing...

Oh! That reminds me... will Whirlpool and Flash come back as HMs? o.o;;

Really? Cool. I never ran into one that early. (Too bad I don't have Crystal version anymore. :( Oh well, maybe I can see if they have them at Game Stop for like $10 or something... At least I still have Silver version.) I'm glad that not all the beginning Pokemon are Pokemon I want for the whole game. It makes my decision easier. It's like having Staryu, Mantine, Corsola, and Poliwag being easy to find earlier in the game. I wouldn't be able to make a decision. I like all those water type Pokemon. Anyone could catch a water Pokemon w/ a rod and then teach it Surf. Or you could teach Furret Surf until you find a decent water type.

All of them are good but if you are looking for the best...

Physical Offense: Scizor, Heracross

Defense: Forretress, Ledian (with screens)

Special Offense: Butterfree (I know its not Johto but its okay xD)

Speed: Yanma

Yes but it counts as a Johto Pokemon since it was introduced in the 2nd generation. :)
