Egyptian Islamic Group Forbids Pokémon GO

I don't think this'll stop the game being released in Egypt but I do find this a little strange. I understand the prohibition of alcohol and drugs etc but I feel like this is striking a slightly different chord. There is no form of bodily harm or impurity or any kind of self-inflicted wrongness involved with playing a smartphone game which I believed to be the reason for the other prohibitions, but "diminished work quality" feels like a strange priority to me? I dunno, it's hard to comment on properly without knowing their full reasoning and the religious teachings involved but I don't imagine this'd stop the game being released in Egypt.

It feels like someone who just doesn't understand quite what the game is reacting badly to it because it's something that young people like and enjoy more than studying religion. Not surprisingly, there are still people doing that. There's even the unintentionally hilarious pastor who thinks Pokemon Go is full of "cyber demons" or whatever.

Spoiler:

My dad is a Jehovah's Witness and he's always told me he doesn't like Pokemon because it is a gateway for games that are worse so maybe that's part of their reasoning, but I doubt it.

*eye roll*

Reminds me of the time when parents and teachers in the US feared that listening to heavy rock or playing dungeons and dragons was Satanic worship that would allow demons to possess their kids (not that I was actually alive then...). The old are always afraid when the young are interested in something they don't understand.
