Toy Story & Toy Story 2 3D Double Feature starts October 2, for two weeks only. Toy Story 3 comes out June 18. No announcement about that one being in 3D, but I think it's a given.
Robert Zemeckis' (he directed the Back to the Future trilogy, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Forrest Gump, Cast Away, The Polar Express, etc.) adaptation of A Christmas Carol comes out November 6. In a curious collaboration, Disney and Zemeckis will be remaking The Beatles animated flick "Yellow Submarine". 3D and CGI motion capture. Should be out summer 2012 in time for the London games.
There's the almost yearly stupid Disney talking dog movie that for some reason makes oodles of cash. This one is called Old Dogs and stars John Travolta, Robin Williams, Seth Green, and Matt Dillon and will be released on November 25. Jeff Garlin, Bonnie Hunt, Whoopi Goldberg, and Michael Keaton join the cast.
The Princess and the Frog comes out December 11. And there will be a limited engagement in New York and Los Angeles wherein the movie will be out nearly a month before it's official release. Very important movie. Disney's first traditionally animated feature in a looong time. And I am pumped for it. Really looking forward to. They had various animators working on the film on stage talking about the character. The villian, Dr. Facilier, was described by Bruce Smith as being Captain Hook meets Cruella Devile.
Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland comes out March 5, 2010. In November 2011, Burton's feature-length version of Frankenweenie should be released.
The team who brought you the Pirates of the Caribbean films is bringing you Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time on May 28.
There was a surprise appearance by the Muppet gang to announce "The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made". Seriously. That's the title. That was an idea Jim Henson was playing with way back when, but it never came to fruition. Essentially, the Great Gonzo is directing the film and blows the entire budget on the opening credits. All the rest of movie is then literally held together with duct tape. I don't know if this movie will actually stick to that concept. Jason Segel is writing it.
Johnny Depp sailed by in full Sparrow garb shortly after saying he was looking for a talking frog (Kermit). He likes them because they taste like chicken. And it was here that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was announced. It comes out May 2011.
Nicolas Cage is starring in and producing a live-action modern adaption of the classic Fantasia short "The Sorcerer's Apprentice". I'm really iffy about this.
Disneynature news! Oceans comes out April 22 next year. Films in the works about flowers, chimpanzees, orangutans, flamingos, and big cats. I love that Disneynature exists. Goes back to the nature programs Walt made. I think Oceans will be in 3D too.
Guillermo del Toro has partnered with Disney to form the strangest titled production company ever - Disney Double Dare You. Will produce films, cartoons, books and other merchandise off of del Toro's future films (be he directing, writing, producing, etc.) and other concepts of his. Seems like an interesting line. Sorta surprised that Burton isn't under this label now too.
A sequel to Tron should be out December 17 of next year. It's called Tron Legacy and the LOST writers are uhh...well...writing it.
John Carter of Mars will be out in 2012. It's Pixar's first live-action film and will be directed by Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, WALL-E).
A Lone Ranger movie is in the works. Depp will play Tonto.
The only news we got about Cars 2 is that Lightning McQueen is invited to race around the world and his whole crew goes with him. Finn McMissile is a new character who believes Mater is a secret agent. "Car Toons" animated shorts will continue to air and new ones will be released. Cars 2 comes out June 24, 2011
Lasseter is working on a new Winnie the Pooh film. Steve Anderson (Meet the Robinsons) and Don Hall are directing. Will be more like the original Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and not the lame Pooh sequels. Will be based on fives A. A. Milne stories and not an original story. It'll be out Spring of 2011.
Rapunzel will be in theatres in time for the holidays of 2010. Byron Howard (Bolt) and Nathan Greno are working on it. Disney's first computer animated princess flick. Pixar's first princess flick "The Bear and the Bow" will be out in time for the holidays of 2011.
Beauty and the Beast will be rereleased in 3D in times for Valentine's Day. Menken is also working on some new music for a feature-film version of the Broadway show.
