Evolution - Mega Vs Regular

Regular evolution. Mega evolution kinda seems like fan service to favourites.

I guess Z-moves could also be seen as fan service, what with Raichu, Pikachu, Snorlax, Mew and others but at least the general concept of Z-moves is that every Pokemon can use them.

Regular evolution is the only type of evolution that feels earned.

I can get your point about regular evolution feeling "earned". Especially when there's so many weird and difficult methods of evolution to take into account.

Hm, I don't exactly dislike the Mega Evolutions, but I didn't really think that much of them. I quite liked the new forms for Gengar and Charizard, but I would have preferred it if it was something like using a special stone that was difficult to find, or levelling up in a certain way (possibly like the Glaceon or Leafeon evolutions in Sun/Moon where you have to be in a particular area). It felt a bit underwhelming to simply be given the stones.

An interesting thing about Mega evolution is how seemingly inconsistent it is treated. In gen 6 they said that it's something created due to the bond between trainer and Pokemon and said bond allows those Pokemon to release their full potential.
However in gen 7 they introduced Pokedex entries and those often feel like Mega evolution being a forced action that does make the Pokemon suffer pain which in return transforms it into a ferocious beast that occasionally even might attack its trainer.

Personally I'm a little torn on Mega evolution. I like some of their designs (Mega Scizor, Diancie and Mawile belong to my favorites) and some certainly benefit from that additional power. At the same time, there's so many Pokemon who don't need a Mega, who got it due to popularity, which in return warped the whole powerlevel and the resulting metagames a little bit too much in favor for their utility, robbing quite a bit of creativity when it comes to teambuilding.

Imo, less Megas and more regular evolutions would be better. So I'd say I prefer normal evolution over Megas.
