Hey Bay, mind reviewing my fic? I think it's near perfection though...

All right, Bay! That's all awesome! You can actually send it to me Tuesday night so I can look it over all day Wednesday. I don't have school that day either, so I'll have plenty of time.

I've started to write a new fanfic since my last one wasn't very good. I'm slowly typing the first chapter, but I can't think on a good title for the fic. Right now, I have it called 'No Day But Today' after some songs in the musucal RENT. I'm never really good with titles, but this ones sort of fits. But does anyone have any tips on thinking of titles?

BTW: I haven't posted this fic yet.

That title sounds okay, but it would be helpful if you could tell us a little bit about the fic.

Yeah, Super Gullwing, we can't really tell you whether or not your title fits your fic unless you tell us a bit more about it. "No Day But Today" seems like a good title for a fic where the character has a chance to do something special that's "once in a life time" and well seizes the day.

I've been trying to find the posts where titles were talked about before, but I haven't found anything yet. I swear that I talked about choosing the correct title for a fic before on this board... ;>>

Um, sometimes, when you're unsure about your title, just run with it for a while, and maybe a better title will come to you. I know that that always happens with my fics. Like the Pokemon fic I have lying around somewhere went from "FINALE: Johto Beginnings" to "Long Twilight Struggle" while I was writing it. So sometimes, a title just comes to you.

I would say more, but I lost my book that talks about titles. xP

I agree with everyone else on the title thing. Usually, a title will come to me after I've written my one-shots.

And.. Hanako might be happy to hear that I have another one-shot idea, but it's NOT SHOWING AN EVIL TRAINER!!2121 I have taken on your dare. XP

Ah, DP876, your idea for a one-shot makes me want to quote a Seaking. But I can't, because that would be breaking the rules. So I'll just say: "About time!"

Ugh, you want to talk about bad titles? My Pokemon fic, when I first posted it about two (almost three) years ago was titled "Legend of a Champion". You can't get any more clichéd than that. x.x I'm so glad I took that thing down.

I've read through forty-five pages of this thread. And my goodness, that was a strange trip through time.

talking about bad titles, eh? I'm still disgusted that my brother called his story "Pokemon Chronicles". I know he thought it was trendy because "Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles" and the "Digimon Chronicles" manga were being released around the same time span, but I guess that just goes to show how unoriginal he was really being. Certainly didn't help that 4kids happened to drag the name through the mud a couple years later with what was no doubt their worst work in the entire franchise. What's really sad is that I actually kept it for a good while (and I tried to force meaning to the title in the scripted revision by having the protagonist chronicle the events at the beginning of the first chapter).... yet another reason I'm glad I decided to stop being sympathetic to my deadbeat brother's original ideas and just started treating it as my own.

I've had a new title planned for a while, though I'm not willing to reveal it yet at this point. I'm hoping people will enjoy it in any case.

My story is called the "Eon Chronicles", but the title is related to an actual object in the book (a heavilly important one), so I guess it works. It took me about three or four chapters to come up with the name, at which time I promptly moved my entire story to a new, "named" thread on the forums I was posting on :P

But I agree. The word "chronicles" is used WAY too much in titles :C

Mine is 'Working Title' or 'Title Pending', whichever one you like best lol. Na I'll come out with a real title eventually, probably once I've finished writing about half of the story.

Fanfic titles? Mmmhmm...titling is horrible, yes it is. My biggest writing obstacle aside from clothes and - in some cases - character names. xP There's not much advise I can give without knowing the contents of the fic (and to be honest, I think only the author will really be able to tell what title is just right), but a couple of words to avoid include 'champion', 'chronicles', 'darkness', 'destiny', 'legend'/'legendary', 'master', 'prodigy', 'quest', 'shadow'. 'ultimate', 'journey' and names of legendary pokemon; all of those are horribly overused. .__. (so obviously we don't go with something like "Legend of Shadow Mew: the Master Trainer's Ultimate Journey' xD) One thing that might help, though, is to go through a thesaurus and look up all kinds of words associated to the contents of your story and see if anything strikes your fancy. I sort of had a reverse of this with my fic-in-the-works; it was a certain word I wanted to check the meaning of, only to find - much to my joy - that it was precisely the meaning I wanted my title to convey. Sometimes you just get lucky. xD

Anyway, No Day But Today has a nice ring to it, though I can't judge how accurate it is without a story to peg it to. (That would be sort of like evaluating the name of a painting without looking at the painting) Like Hanako said, trying a name out for a while helps in deciding, though. ^^

My name, Pokemon UK, took me about 10 seconds to think up. And it shows because it's probably t'most boring name ever devised. And I know a lot about boredom, I come from t'Midlands.

I just think it gives it all away. A good title should leave some elements of surprise, like No Day But Today does.

Incidently, if my fic seems inactive for a while, it's because I'm fixing all t'chapters at t'start. So no one close it:cheeky:

My title is "Season Champs". I hate it so much. I couldn't figure out a better title. After reading my first two chapters, what do you think the title should be?

EDIT: Acutally, maybe you should wait for the release of chapter 3, which comes out TODAY!

*yays*

So far the titles I came up with all of my fics:

-Heart of the Sea
-Nothing, Everything
-Take Fifty Five
-Simplicity
-Rid of the Scarlet Letter
-Dusty Wings

So far had not used clinched names yet! XD

For those that PMed me to review their fic (ducan and Griff) I will get to it on the weekend...this week I am going to be very, very busy. >.>

Halloween did not help much when it came to making progress on Biohazard, so, I was thinking about doing a side oneshot fic that I had an idea a long time ago involving Pokemon kept as pets being left at home while their trainers are out shopping one day and how they fight over what tv show they get to watch. Anybody think this idea's good as a slight break until I can think about how to continue Biohazard?

Titles are usually pretty important, as that's what will draw potential reader/reviewers to your fic. Choosing a good one isn't as hard as you might think, though. When a good titlle just pops up in your head it's pretty simple.

Unfortunately that doesn't always happen. I agree with AE (all these nicknames are even more confusing that these long user names...) that there several overused words in titles.

The thing is, some people confuse overused words with words that should be used. Like in my title, Blazing Dreams: Legends of Sinnoh. Sure, you can exchange a few words in the title. But words that reference places like Sinnoh and the like usually are just fine.

True, they may also be overused. But small touches like that are what emphasize that the story is Pokemon. And it also works the other way around. For a book (or movie) about WWII, there's usually some part in the title that shows that it had to do with WWII. This can be the case in just about every other genre of books or movies.

Wow, that was longer than I expected. XD

If you've been working on something for a long time, sometimes, it's better if you do. Otherwise, your brain gets fried, and you can't really think of anything else to write, so you start churning out crap.

Or, at least, that's my personal experience with things. ^_^; In any case, I'd say go for it. A little break on a small side project might do you good, and you'll be able to go back to Biohazard with a refreshed muse.

Jack-Jack, no one's going to close your fic. The only time fics get closed here is if someone other than the author bumps them. So you can rewrite your chapters and take all the time you want, and not have to worry about a thing.

Skunter, go ahead with your other story. Like Jax said, it's good to take breaks from writing the same story after a while. You just need to focus your mind on another project, and perhaps you'll get some inspiration for Biohazard.

*is still dead from "Legend of a Champion"*
