When I first bought my laptop a couple of years ago, I used WMP as default since it was Vista. After getting an iPod though, I started to use iTunes so I can sync it. Since then, iTunes has been great to keep all of my videos and music in order.

I haven't used WMP on my computer in who knows how long.

Back in the days when my latest album was Busted's "Busted" (2002 album), so...about 2007 ;P I used Windows Media Player...because I didn't have a PC, I just used my dad's, and he was really strict, so all I did on it was play Tribal Wars.

However, we got a laptop, and my brother got an iPod, so we got iTunes. I found that to be brilliant (Even if he did refuse to let me put my music on it). Since then, I've kinda used iTunes whenever I used anything (At one point all my music was on my phone). Now I've got a separate account on the laptop, and literally all I use is iTunes. It's just what I've gotten used to, and seeing as I hope to one day get an iPod, I doubt that's going to change. I also find it fairly easy to use (Although sometimes it has to be aggressively negotiated with in order to get it to choose the right album artwork. Or accept that aforementioned artwork exists).

I have a different favorite for lots of different types of media.
For Music iTunes
For Movies, Videos VLC Player
For Photo/images I use many depending on what I am doing.

Just iTunes and WMP.

I have things like Realplayer and QuickTime, but I've only used Realplayer for videos.

Ever since the last few chiptune formats and good iPod support got added to Foobar I've been using it for all my music needs. It's essentially iTunes that isn't a slow and horribly coded piece of crap with, the interface set up similar.

And MPC to handle video.

I just stick with the default WMP because I'm lazy. When I need something more, I use video lan client, but that doesn't happen often.

i use Media Player Classic Home Cinema, a pc media player, for videos and audio files. although i mainly use it for playing matroska(mkv) files. regardless, i think it is the best one there is. it'll play pretty much any video or audio type you can think of. saves the pain of converting files.
