FIRST!!!

I used to think it was a big amusing (never bothered with it myself) but I hate the idea of it now. :/ I can understand wanting to be the first commenter to leave a review that everyone will end up seeing, but so few people go "first!" and then leave an otherwise worthwhile comment. So basically the "first" spammers are the annoying ones that everyone scrolls past anyway when trying to read replies and there's no point to posting it at all. :/ It's just spam, plain and simple.

It also seems really obnoxious, which is why I never have an issue when the tendency has turned to flame other people when they do that. :P
 
I don't care about those who comment first. Doesn't hurt me and the reactions can sometimes be mildly amusing.
 
It's SPAM. Is there really anything else you can say about it? It's stupid, annoying, and pointless. Only difference here is that it's a comment, not a message. =D

Not really, no, because that one person was the only one who has ever done it to me in all my time of posting art online, and they also left commentary anyway. Yeah, I can see how it would be annoying, especially if you do normally get/expect actual comments, or get tons of them and would have to scroll through the spam, but to me? All I saw was someone that thought what I made was worth 'FIRST-ing' at. Normally it's the big-shots with really great/popular work that are guaranteed to have people 'competing' to comment first. Honestly it wouldn't have felt any different even if they hadn't added commentary, because that alone is a compliment to me. I'm the kind of person who'd appreciate even a 'wow, that's cool!' 'cause even though it's not well thought-out or specific, that person had something to say and said it, and for an artist in my shoes that's all I really care about.
 
This is a pathetic way of the interweb people to find satisfaction and a way to feel proud of themselves.

It is useless spam that does not contribute to the video/anything else.

The word "First" when commenting on something is usually considered SPiced hAM. On another note, I love when read twenty comments in, and someone says first. xDD
 
I try not to get irritated by it, and most times I don't. It does seem kind of pointless to post "first" though. It's more irritating when people think they're funny by posting first for like the 56th comment. Again, it doesn't really affect me, but it's sad that some people have that sense of humour.
 
So we know saying "First!" is blatant spam, right? Imagine this for a second. Let's say you're a content provider and you're waiting for someone to notice your work. You've done your work, used your time, and made something free and public for the world to use and enjoy.

Then you wake up the next morning, go to check your work and the first thing you see is someone saying "YOU ARE THE LUCKY 1000TH VISITOR AND HAVE WON OUR CONTEST"

...Yeah. That's what it's like.

I know what you mean, but for some artists I know, it's very irritating. Some would spend only 20 minutes or less on a pic and would not mind those "FIRST" comments, and answer : "lol"
But for those who are working very hard on a pic, taking them months to finish, what they want is not a "FIRST !!!1!1!1"
They want something like "Nice job" or "You could have....", "Would look better if...".
That's why those comments are often flagged as Spam, on DeviantArt, or are just receiving replies like "-__-".

Being able to ignore it is not the same as not minding. ;/

But they usually become sick and tired of ignoring all the time.
To get only a few per months/week is okay.
But to get too many of those, that is, on the 3/4 pictures that you are posting, really do get boring. And if the artist doesn't want to be rude, they would usually move, but then lose all they had on their previous account.

Just saying, they do ignore those messages.
But again, too many of them is annoying, and if by any bad luck, the person is in bad mood because of whatever happened IRL before, then it is possible they get angry, and flag it as spam, hide the comment, delete it, which causes the autor to see it was deleted/flagged as spam/... and makes him pissed -> He tells everyone that the guy was being mean and rude -> Friends go and flame (to the worst it can get of course o: ) -> Person who flagged gets angrier.
That could be one reason why they hate it too. And that works for many other cases.
But this ^ is a very common case to the "First to comment" thing. o:
