Yeah, while we're really flexible and have a lot of different things to learn/do, we are all over the place and don't really have a 'home base'. Can be extremely stressful for the big events as well. I think the largest one I've worked was when the company rented out the entire park from 5 pm to 2 am and we had to set up 100 tables and 1,000 chairs in about an hour.

Despite the hard work, it's difficult for us to be recognized by the higher ups. Sucks to put so much effort into giving the amusement park a good image and we're outshined by a cashier. Not that they don't work hard, but we undeniably work harder. :/

I've worked at 2 amusement parks. :) One in Utah and then the one here in California. Both were basically run the same so I assume that's how it's done in all other amusement parks.

Each department has an entire different set of management and different regulations and training to follow. While I work in events, I'm only ever allowed to help out in anything food related. So I have no business whatsoever helping the department that changes the trashcans, who run the rides, run the games, and so on. Unless I filled out a form requesting to switch to that new area entirely, though I'd have to completely give up my previous department.

Though with each department, even they're separated into sections. I'm considered to be in the 'foods' department simply because company events have food and we have to be certified to work with the food, but what we do is completely different than regular food stands. And each food stand is even divided by the section of the park they're in. Each food stand has different sets of managers and supervisors and employees. So while I can offer food stands my help, I'm not required to since that's not what I was originally put into.

Just about every other department is like that as well. We have our rides department but they're also separated by the sections of the park they work at. Same with games and merchandise.

Guess it's necessary to kind of have a 'own little world' mentality so one person doesn't have to focus on such a huge amusement park. It's easier just to break things down into sections and teams, even if it requires a crap ton of supervisors and managers, haha.
 
I wish we had a good amusement park near where I live. The closest [good] one is all the way in Atlanta which is about 5 hours from me :[
 
I can't really ride too many rides as my heart starts to race and I get really sick but I do enjoy the parks in general. I mainly go for the food <3
 
I don't even know of any small amusement or theme parks around here. The only one in Indy that I know of is Holiday World and their rides aren't too bad. All but one of the coasters are wooden so they really jerk you around, but the last time I heard of someone dying or being seriously injured on one of them it was because they were being a jackass. Some skinny lady stuffed a bunch of stuff in her pants and then got on The Raven. Once the ride started she took all the stuff out so that there was room to squeeze out and then she stood up and just kinda flew out.

My point is unless you have a heart condition or one of the other things that they slap on their warning label to say "hey don't ride this ride" then they're pretty much safe unless you're being dumb.
 
I've never really been a fan of disney :T I went back when I was a little kid a couple of times and then I went on a band trip my sophomore year. There was a lot of riding the same ride while holding different objects and trying to take the most interesting picture possible. I remember having a bottle of lotion and some cheesecake in my hands for some reason at one point. Idk.
 
I love theme parks! I've already been to disneyland once.

Oh man, I loved it! But I gotta say, I liked Universal Studios a bit more...
 
I haven't been to a theme park in like 7 years.

I dropped my phone in water tonight and now the screens all fucked up, I'm so sad. ;(
 
Last time I went to an amusement park was I believe two years ago? When my brother graduated high school so we went on a vacation and pretty much went to all of Disney World and also one day at Univeral. All I can say is that unless you're with people that you won't get tired of being around don't do many days consecutively haha. On the third day we were bickering at eachother so we had to take a day off to chill at the hotel.
 
Went to Worlds of Fun in Kansas City a couple months ago. I rode on this bad beast.

That is the Mamba, one of the world's tallest roller coasters. Standing at 205 feet, top speed of 75 mph, and it gives you a clear view of Downtown Kansas City once you reach the top. I was freaking NERVOUS when I got on this ride, but in the end you'll end up wanting to get on it again. haha.

As a California girl, I miss having Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm near me though. But hey, I got Six Flags here.

I haven't been to any Disney theme park in years upon years, certainly not even Disney World since I last visited there when I was five or so. :( I'm so totally jealous of you two, haha. I wanna go there again (well, would be first time for Disneyland), it's been way too long!

It depends on the situation.

Any manager from anywhere on the park can say something like, "Hey, put on your name badge, you need it on the job." But if it's something that would result in them needing to be written up for misconduct, then they have to contact their manager of the area they are in to discuss it.

Last Halloween a food stand asked if I'd be able to work that day, but I got into a car accident and couldn't make it. They said if I didn't have some form of valid excuse with proof then I'd be written up for it since Halloween was a black out day and everyone who was supposed to work that called out would get written up.

I didn't give them the proof because it was not my department, never got written up because my manager told them they had no right since I am not working directly under them and my department didn't originally even need me that day.

I can agree with this! Been there several times in my life, and one of the reasons why I miss Cali. From experience, you need more than one day to experience the true awesomeness of Disneyland.

I've never been to California Adventure after it was revamped though. So I missed out.
 
I am a gigantic fan of Disney and even worked in a Disney Store for half a year (quit because I was getting 4 - 12 hours weekly because they were very strict with labor), and I'm sure Disneyland can be fun. But I don't support any amusement park that costs an arm and a leg to get into.

I work at Knott's Berry Farm and not only is it cheaper, the rides are still fun, it's not as crowded (depending on the day), and there's a lot of entertainment and interesting shops you can browse through. It's not as big in comparison to Disney, but it's not mediocre either. I'd love to visit Disneyland more because I know they have wonderful attractions, but it gets far too busy and I don't feel like spending an entire paycheck just to get there with a friend or family member. :/

And omgggg, Hogsmead. I'd absolutely love to work there just for the experience, I'm so jealous! I can't wait for them to open up Harry Potter World here in CA, I'm extremely excited. :)
