Forum Software

has anyone ever tryed proboards?
I'm sure everyone has tried ProBoards at least once.
If not, then I assume they never wanted a forum and/or thought it was crappy before using it.

*wonders what happened to common sense*
What is this "common sense" you speak of? :P

I used Conforums at first, and it was just ridiculously un-customizable. Proboards supposedly has more, but I decided I'd rather move to Invisionfree. Besides, there were countless bugs in it like users and threads just disappearing without a trace, and that must be a bug with the software, not the host...

Of course, I've now realized that I CAN just install PHP on the other server and get a proper, ad-free board. =P But Invisionfree isn't too bad for now, and I'd rather dream on about vBulletin and perhaps make it come true than install something free...

vBulletin is a ideal forum software for larger sites, because not only is it hack friendly but it really does integrate (if you do it right) and a very good way.

You should NEVER get a vB for a site that makes less than 100 UNIQUE hits (and not pageviews :P)

any forum can be used wih really big site, look at phpbb, the larger forum right now is using it, but that doesn't mean i still like phpbb.

Mine gets 700 unique a day. =P So yes, I should get vBulletin.

But how active is your forum currently? ;P

Besides unless you know *how* to fully use a vB it is such a waste.

from what i seen, dragonfree forum is really active, 210,000 post, thats a lot for a invision free forum.
i my self wish that i had that much >.<

The forums get over 400 unique visits a day, have nearly 211,000 posts out of a year and a half, and over 800 members (650 who have posted)... more than 70 topics have been active in the last 24 hours.

I don't get why people mess with a winning forumal >_> they never are happy with what they have, they try to perfect it a little bit more and more and eventually it just blows up in their face.

IPB is NOT that much different in vBulletin (in some ways) so why spend 80 dollars on a one year license?

Maybe because Invisionfree is an extremely stripped-down/dumbed-down version of IPB that doesn't even come close to a regular IPB. >>

Thats only because they didn't have features like inline moderation back than, you can't hold it against them.

Atleast you could buy a IPB license for only 30 bucks and save 20 bucks for like a week of Mcdonalds XD

I always say the more expnsive the more better and id rather spend it on vb then IPB there more IPB than VB i would say...cause its cheap....and im getting my license renawal this christmas...*sorry if spelling is junk in typing in pitch black with a black keyboard*

Wow that completely made no sense so please turn a LIGHT on! I don't have a n00bese translator on hand -.-

And IPB has alot more features than vB, a vBulletin is perfect for one who knows alot about customizations and can install a lot of confusing hacks.

IPB and vB have almost exactly the same features. vB has plugins- that's about the only thing.

And IPB is a lot cheaper.

but also vb has a way bigger acp from what iv seen *sorry master blaze its on now -_-*and ill have you know that im a g-mod in a very popular pokemon site so i dont think u should call me a n00b..you dont know me*

vBulletin has a bigger ACP because it is all put together on one nav bar on one page.

IPB is seperated, which I truthfully *love* I mean it gets confusing when your trying to navigate vB's ACP.

I might buy a IPB license myself.

ok i must agree with you there but...vb can also hold alot more members and *attracts more members* than IPB and can also hold alot more posts...i mean IPB can reach the same as pcommunity but ipb would be slower than a vb board and pc has alot on right now(posts, members)and it aint that slow..and plus it has to hold all the pics(avatars, sigs)ect for the members...IPB is good but not as good as vb when it comes to "power"

Wow that is probably the most n00best post I have read in 2005.

If a IPB is slow it is BECAUSE of the host, NOT the forum software itself. And omg IPB and VB can hold the SAME (unlimited) amount of members, posts, and threads (and pictures) that their host can handle.

Wow, I am seriously embarrassed to talk to such a n00b. Please don't comment unless you are sure your knowing what you are talking about because your looking completely n00bish to me, and I don't feel like calling someone a n00b before I really know them.

And IPB actually attracts more members because of its easier navigation system, plus it's default skin is PURE eye candy.

All right, Bugsy, know what you're talking about before you post... >>
I'm thinking about buying an IPB too, Richie...the only thing that keeps me from it is the lack of plugins. =/
And vB's admin CP is really powerful, but horribly designed. =/

No worries Robo,

Very soon IPB will include a plugin system, they are known for taking vB's features :P

So be ready for the BlazeMan to switch ships to IPB
