    Game Guides

    I think all the main series games have them and a few of the spin-offs too. Do you use them or do you prefer to find things out for yourself?

    I always buy them and do find them very useful for getting information on new mechanics or features that they've added. I like to explore the world first myself so I experience everything new with no spoilers, but then I like to check the guide to make sure that I haven't missed anything. I wish they'd put everything in one volume though, I would have thought they'd have enough time to put it all together before release.

    I bought the guides for Platinum and HeartGold/SoulSilver and they were a life saver. Especially because HeartGold had such a long story. These days though I just use internet walkthroughs if I ever need some help, but for the most part I don't really need guides anymore.
     
    That's true, the Internet can pretty much answer anything you need to know these days in a matter of seconds! I still like to have that solid book though, part of a collection, and you can just flick through it and look at the pretties!
     
    The only physically printed guide I ever bought was for Ruby & Sapphire back when I started playing those games. Other than that, I only read online guides when it comes to seeing how to get through the game.
     
    My very first game guide was a broken up RBY one that my neighbor left behind when he moved. From there i used to fantasize playing the game since my dad refused to buy me any of the actual games.

    So when i finally managed to get my hands on Pokemon Black, i felt like I had to get the game guide, just for old times sake. And I have been getting every single one since. Usually I just used it to mark off Pokemon I've catched and items I've found, unless i get stuck on a new mechanic (Super Training, controls for soaring) then I'll carefully read through.
     
    Pokemon isn't a series where I mind using a guide for information, honestly. I like figuring out things myself from time to time, but usually I just like to know where I'm going and how to get certain items or Pokemon I really want. It's a casual series for me, so I like to play it pretty relaxed and just experience it.

    As for physical guides... I once had a really cool one way back for Crystal version, and I used it all the time. With the internet, they're not nearly as necessary... but it's still a neat thing to collect. Unfortunately, most of the guides they release feel like they come out too early in the generation and end up lacking a lot of information I'd like, such as later generation tutors and forms... and with the price of some guides, it kind of scares me away from it.

    Ultimately, I think I'm just waiting for one really big, ultimate Pokemon guide book that tells everything I need to know about the most recent games and ALL the Pokemon, moves, items, characters, etc... but then it'd be out of date a few years later. ^-^;
     
    I don't have any guides, I don't need nor want them either. I enjoy exploring the region myself as if I'm exploring new lands. :)
     
    I have my guides for RBY, GSC, RSE, ORAS. I like having the guides, for collection sake. I don't have DPPt or BW/BW2 because I don't play those games much anymore because they're my least favorite. Whenever I play the others though, I refer to the books :3

    I also have the guidebooks for Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2!
     
    I use Online Guide for Pokemon Emerald and Other Pokemon Games(I don't Remember names of that game) when i find it difficult to play a certain level or Stuck at a Point, other than that i use online Walkthroughs as they are neat,more helpful and Easy to grasp haha.
