Well, Imma have to admit, I aimed most of my votes so far at people and RPs I'm familiar with. That's because I don't have the time or patience to read every single RP to "vote objectively".

That does not mean, however that the people/RPs I voted for are undeserving. It makes much more sense to me to vote for someone I'm familiar with than for someone another person might consider better than whoever I voted for but that I did not read the work of.

People should seriously stop getting so worked up over things. Really u.u
Besides, the RPAs aren't always a popularity contest and I'll even use myself as an example. I got one nomination for best SU writer this year. I'm not part of that many RPs to begin with and I'm certainly not popular. Most RPers don't even know me, just as I don't even know them. Yet I DID get one nomination and it seriously made my day.

I love the possibility of a joint post RPChallenge, maybe then I could feel secure enough to actually try. I can't trust my lack of talent, but I can trust my ability to leech off of someone else's talent >:D

I think I'd totally try out a joint-post challenge. which reminds me I should stop procrastinating and finish this month's challenge...

Yes, please, everyone participate in the RPCs! I'm keeping it open until the evening of the 29th my time, so please write something, even if it's only 100 words! I've heard lots of ideas about high school, secret agent and hospital AUs and I would love to read each and every one! Remember, judges can compete too!

So, the RPAs.

When it comes to history, apparently there was an RPA in 2005 that ran similar to the MotY, but the first one that ran like these ones we have now was back in 2011 and ran by Rika! They were once every 2 months for a little bit (Diamond1304 ran the next one) and were a bit more active than any of the ones we had recently. And that was because it was easy to vote; one name per category.

After that, I took over and continued with the same way, but changed the every two months to every season (cutting it into quarters). I made new emblems to make it seem fresh and new. After I saw the many people voting for previous winners, I changed it so the last winner couldn't win it again, to make sure we kept the ball rolling and sharing the awards around. I added the description that people had to add in because I felt like most people were just voting for the sake of it, and it felt rather empty when it came to counting up votes.

2012 I shook it up by incorporating the secret judge panel which were chosen by me. So this ran like this for a year and I was actually pleased with the winners. It felt deserving and a far more meaningful process rather than just counting up tallys. The only real problem with it was time and it took us a lot of time to come up with a winner. But, I think it was worth it.

SV ran the last two I was associated with before they just kind of fizzled out, before Pete brought it back half a year later.

So, what do I think? They are both a good and bad thing.

Good? It's like the academy awards or olympics time of year. Everyone gets all chirpy and excited to see winners and honestly, we could see an improvement in posts. It was good motivation to get yourself out there and we always saw a bout of RPs popping up just before it was RPA time again. There was a nice spirit around and it was great to be a part of it. And when it came to announcing winners, we had a lot of gratified people and a lot of good sportsmanship.

But, there were some bad points. I saw an uncomfortable amount of people saying "aw man i wish i won an award" and "i never win an award im just not good enough ):". Not only was this dampening the spirit but this is textbook bad sportsman ship (and guilt tripping on the judges, honestly). When it came to judging i felt that some of the judges were emotionally swayed by these people and sometimes thinking that giving awards just to make them feel better about themselves, which is not exactly what the awards are about.

honestly, i don't care about the awards themselves. i know ive won awards and im grateful to those who have voted but theyre just awards. bits of words that say i did something. and i would give all those awards and all my emblems and my modship and even my cherished username away just to see this community lighten up and come together and be happy. because that's what i love most about the RP Corner, is how friendly and supporting we are of one another. and i get to see these from all the best angles. its my favourite part of being mod. :)

so, yeah. what i would love to see this award ceremony and all year around is spirit. liveliness! be proud of one another! we've all done a great job creating stories with one another and even if you don't win or don't even participate, everybody deserves to be congratulated. well done everybody!!

Well I've noticed there hasn't been much shameless advertising lately and I feel bad about that, plus we're still short on people so here it is. Anyone who likes romance, beautiful women, kickass combat, psychotic CEOs, or any combination thereof, give Sekirei: Wings of Fate a look. It's finally picking up and having things happen, but is still short of people, especially human women. If it's not your cup of tea please mention it to anyone you know who might enjoy a nice warm cup.

Actually come to think of it, we need more women period. Give it a look ladies, you can be confident you'll be appreciated there :D The fact that we're nice helps but we also need you ^_^ In other words ladies drink free! Come one come all to the greatest love story the world has ever seen! (Minaka's words not mine)

Return From Exile needs more players! You can be an alien or human (I can open more alien options if you want just PM me).

Humanity has discovered the sun scorched planet of Kharak is not their true homeworld from the wreckage of an ancient vessel on their world. As they rebuild the means of returning home they have provoked the wrath of a powerful alien Empire that launched an all out assault on Kharak, destroying almost all the humans and leaving Kharak a burning husk.

Now with just a few people left and an enemy pursuing them humanity must find a way to survive while discovering why they were attacked and how to survive to return to their true home: Terra.

There is much more going on beyond the humans journey home, as humans are not the center of the galaxy (just story). So even if you decide to play an alien you will have your own objectives and purposes.

Both those RPs sounds really interesting. I hope you'll find players who have time for one of them :3

A question - has anyone participated in a RP with a strict posting order? Like, player 1 posts, player 2 posts, player 3 posts.... until everyone has posted and then player 1 posts again and so on. With a max limit for how long you can wait until you skip a player's turn. Did it work well?

I thought it worked quite well, but then again this was a while back. While it did get people posting, often people who weren't really motivated/not interested tended to drop out drastically reducing it to a few players. The upside was that those dedicated stayed in and the RP went at quite a good speed.

Are you thinking of implementing it, Red?

Maybe. Homestuck RPs have worked poorly in the past and I'm thinking, considering the nature of Homestuck's SBURB game even, that a posting order could make things neater and less confusing. Maybe. :)

I know chapter roleplays can work similarly to this, though instead of a specific order, it was like 'post once per chapter, then new chapter'.

I think the only issue with limiting how much people can post or when they can post is denying spontaneous interaction.

Hey I'm new here to PC and was just browsing the forum sections and was wondering if the RP Corner was "Noob Friendly"? I have little to no writing ability but I am wanting to learn. I also heard that RPing is like the mmo of stories and that it likes a writing game. Am I correct and since I'm pretty new to writing as a whole would I be welcome here?

Hi there! Welcome to the RP Corner! :)

The Corner accepts any and all writing ability, and it's great that you want to improve! And yes, you could think of it like that! A writing game is a great explanation of roleplaying, as it is basically a group of people playing a role of a character in a scenario, and as you can see a lot of us find it super fun. d:

You're definitely welcome here, buddy! Just make sure you read the rules (click here!) before you jump in, as our rules is a pretty great way how to understand how we do things here.

If you need a hand with anything, don't be afraid to shoot me or Magic or probably anyone here a message. :)

Wow, I've never heard it described that way before...but that's pretty much what RPing is. Heh, that's a pretty interesting way to put it.

Welcome to the RP Corner! You don't really need to be good at writing to get involved and, heck, a number of people roleplay because they want to get better at writing and hone their skills (that's actually part of the reason I do it, myself). Check out the- aw, dang it...I was hoping I'd beat the welcoming committee <_<

Well I will say that, as an incentive to read the rules, there are tutorials linked in the rules that are aimed towards helping people get into roleplaying, as well as some tutorials that are just for the sake of getting better at writing. Don't feel obligated to read them if you don't want to, though; a big part of roleplaying (or writing in general) is learning as you go as well as learning from the other people you're roleplaying with.

The community's pretty close knit, so don't feel afraid to ask for help. Welcome to the family!

Hello there! I'm a *new* member to the PC community (only just started using my account after making it several years back), and just noticed the RP section of the forums. I'm an avid RPer, but most of my experience has been through chat systems, or through Tumblr.

I haven't RP'd on a true forum like PC before, so I was wondering if perhaps there is anything I need to know in particular before attempting to join in, or if there's anything else important I need to see before moving forward. I've gone over the rules a few times already, but I'd much rather be safe than sorry. :)

Thank you in advance!

ehehehe d: nice TTGL theme btw if that's what it is

Another new guy! Hi there! d:

I think the only difference might be length. All posts must be 100 words in length and double posting by normal players is not allowed. Other than that, the creativity side of things I think is the same. I haven't done a lot of chat roleplaying myself and I see tumblr RPs here and now, but I'm not exactly sure how they are run. But, I'm pretty sure that you should be set. I'm sure one of our friendly members will politely point you in the right direction if you are doing something "wrong", but I'm sure you'll be fine! d:

Alright then, thank you Skymin! I appreciate you getting back to me so quickly. It feels nice knowing there's an active mod around. :)

Welcome, Som3_Clown and NeonicBeast, I hope you guys enjoy RPing here! If you need help, feel free to PM me otherwise most others on this forum are happy to help. If I can suggest, try applying for The Pokemon Trainer Academy, it is the most new user friendly RP running at the moment and PkMn Trainer Yellow does a wonderful job of assisting new people to RPing on the site. Or check HERE for new RPs that the lovely mods have accepted that will definitely be looking for new players.

@Everyone: With the RPAs and the RPChallenges running at the moment, it got me thinking of another option. Provided Magic and Skymin let me go through with it, I was thinking of offering my own weekly challenges (for example one week it could be create an RP based around theme X). The winner(s) would each receive a $5 supporter gift from me as a reward for their excellent work. (There would be two to three categories that would change weekly. One week I could award for "most creative", the next for "most well written"). What are your thoughts?

That sounds like a really fun idea! I'd be up for it if I had time *cough cough* during the summer after the travel season has ended

and lol
