<gets annoyed at emoticons />

Like... "/me is trying to post this post in this thread"? or "/sings One Direction"?

Whichever you're trying to ask, well... it's either. xD I use "/me" all the time since it's the command I grew up with the most, especially since I'm an IRC veteran and used that command all the time. That command is also available on skype and I also denote my actions using that too. :3

In forums I use "/yadayada" but not as much as the above.

i think i answered it right??

Yes :p I meant that but I didn't know how to put it in words :/

Using Megan's example..

I used to use *sings One Direction* or -sings One Direction-, as per what used to commonly be done in roleplay.

Now days I use /sings One Direction /rolls around /etc, like what's used in Skype and some other chat programs.

I told myself that there was no reason to switch to / and that it was weird, and I never would. Then I did it once and it just.. stuck. xD;

Hum. The only time I denote action in text nowadays is probably in skype. And there you just type /me so that's what I do, I guess.

I thought this thread was about emoticons, haha. I used to do it like with *yaskjdak* but then changed to -rolls around- because I thought it looked nicer than with those star thingies. Nowadays I think I just don't feel the need to do that in posts. Maybe in VMs and on skype, like previously mentioned.

*Thinks about it*
-Shot-

Usually the above two. I'll try to find some stupid way to incorporate it eventually, but for now, simplicity is the way to go.

I tend to do it like this.

-really thought this thread was about emoticons-

There are three ways i use

*words*
-words-
/me words

The latter is only being used if its supported, else it will look kinda awkward

If the chat protocol supports "/me" then I'll use that
^this.
Otherwise I don't do it.

I thought this was a thread where we could rant about our hatred of emoticons...

I don't. In general, it's obnoxious and pretty annoying regardless of how you do it. I also can't think of any situation where it's something I would have a reason to do, and I spend most of my days on IRC, so that should be telling.
