I'm thinking Iris is new to pokemon and because the town had no pokemon trainers as they all went on their pokemon journey, so Iris was given a few dragons and became leader. Just like Flannery :|.
Either that or she worked hard for the position just like Flannery did :)

Or they decide to change her age for this situation :P.
I wonder if she has any relation to Dragon den as all dragon gym leaders and E4 except for Drake has some relation that we know of...but then again there are only 3 dragon experts...now there are 4...wow the number of dragon experts is more rare than the type it self :P

Yeah I'm thinking she's a daughter, or a relative of some important dragon trainer. It's the only way it'll make sense, unless she's proven herself another way... like beating the version exclusives!

I greatly dislike the fact that Iris is a gym leader, much less the eighth gym leader and one that uses dragons. In fact, I dislike all the gym leaders apart from Dento, Poddo, Koon, Kamitsure, and Furou. I love Furou, though...

Why not Nick? Do you think she's not qualified or something enough? :(

I didn't like her to begin with. This only makes me dislike her more.

The whole gym leader type chain is also a little too Johto for me. I had expectations for something different. :/

I knew someone was going to say this...it is a bit of Johto especially the end but I like the Johto typing anyways :)

Yeah that's what I noticed with the last two gyms, but... it does mean they're connecting HG/SS to B/W in a way (because most people seem to like Johto so..?) Then again, the way they present the gyms will probably be different. I just hope that there's a big storyline involved with Iris' gym.

Yeah I do too Gen 4 began making gym leaders a bit more into the story line with them showing up outside of there gyms, so I hope they expand on that and make a connection with the evil team :)

The gym leader chain is mainly, in my opinion, Johto with a little bit of Hoenn tossed in. I like Johto. I like the gym leaders in Johto (all but Chuck), but it seems like they're just trying to hold onto something... I'll always compare Iris and Claire because of this. Maybe that's a reason why I don't like her being a gym leader, because I compare her to one of the greatest gym leaders in the Pokémon world (in my opinion, anyway). I just wish they went on the edge and did something a little different. The first gym aside, this chain is boring.

Wow you are the first person I know who like Clair...most have a neutral opinion on her...
Ah Hoenn+ Johto= Win :D!

Hoenn + Johto = fail when trying to create a gym leader chain in a region that's supposed to be far away and in a generation that ~I~ anticipated to be so much better than any of the ones before.

Well they did change the first gym up a lot so I'm not disappointed by the rest, as long as we had no rock gym this gen I'm good :D

Nah I disagree, Hoenn+Johto almost always equals good things.
Yes the last two have been done but I mean it's not hard to explain why they chose the order (well at least when it comes to Iris.) Dragon is easily the "coolest" type. I know when I was younger, dragons were the shizz, making the Iris the gym leader while introducing her as Ash's companion in the anime equals some awesome marketing. And Dragon is a little to strong to be anything earlier than 6 or 7.

As far as Ice being 7th for the second time (in a row) I'm not sure, but terrain wise it might just make sense. To me the biggest dissapoitment is no Dark gym, but having no Rock gym kind of balances that out, besides that the order is mostly arbitrary to me. =/

Edit: (woah when did you get Supermodded? I'm so out of the loop :P Congrats! Better late than never I guess.)

I love Furou and Hachiku. Having Iris as the last gym leader is a bit okay to me only because it's sort of a reference to the anime.

I get the feeling I'm going to like Kamitsure and Furou the most. None of the male leaders look all that cool to me this time, except maaaaybe the cowboy looking guy.
