My initial opinions:
Gym 1 - I really liked the idea here, it's a little new and different. And thank the Lord for not another Rock gym! :D Not sure what the dog (Yooterii) is doing there - but I'm still very happy with it.
Gym 2 - Good, we haven't had too many Normal-type gyms. I think that the signature Pokemon should be something a little better than the local rodent though. And the evolved form of the dog we got at the last gym too (Haderia)
Gym 3 - I wanted a bug gym, but I really wanted it to be a later one. Bug's aren't inherently weak, they don't have to be cosigned to early gyms. Hoping that that cacoon thing (Hoiiga) is better than Kakuna/Metapod/Silcoon/Cascoon, or it's just be a walkover
Gym 4 - Eh. Electric is cool I guess. I don't like the double Emongas though - there were 11 Electric types introduced this generation, with some really interesting typings like Bug/Electric and Electric/Ground - there's no need to repeat. I'm very much against repeating Pokemon in gym/E4 line-ups.
Gym 5 - Yes, we got a Ground-type gym. And in a good position too. And the line-up is excellent - probably the best gym in the game, I have absolutely no problems with it.
Gym 6 - This one I'm less happy with. We've already had a Flying-type gym in 6th position. And with 11 Electric types and a Water/Flying (Swanna) as signature Pokemon, it's likely to be a piece of cake (Winona had that ******* Altaria that made her a challenge).
Gym 7 - *HEADWALL* Another Ice gym? Another Ice gym in seventh position? Another ice gym with a freaking sliding ice puzzle? My god, why does GameFreak think we have the memories of a goldfish? It's ridiculous, it really is.
Gym 8 - And ho-hum, another Dragon gym in 8th position. The gym leaders changing on version seems like a good idea, but the line-up seems to remain the same so it seems like a bit of a gimmick to me. At least with Ononokusu to battle it should be a bit of challenge.
But then I look at the line-ups again... seriously, only 3 Pokemon a piece for them? We'll probably have a full team by the time we reach the 6th gym, there really should be more than 3 Pokemon for those last 3 or 4 gyms.
One last thing.... WHERE THE HELL IS OUR DARK-TYPE GYM?
