So out of boredom with next gen gaming systems, I recently got old the old GBAs and my Fire Red and Leaf Green games. I had a play through on both already, and consolidated all my pokemon onto one cartridge. I'm now in the middle of another Fire Red play through.

This is not the only part of my mission, however. I just bought the GBA player for my GameCube (yes, I got the startup disk with it) and plan on playing through Colosseum and XD with the ultimate goal of capturing every pokemon possible and transferring them all onto a single cartridge.

Does anyone have any methods or suggestions on "backing up" my games just incase of a cartridge failure or something? That question is one of the main reasons I joined up here, along with help throughout, and some sharing of my new adventures!

Can't wait to get into this forum a little bit deeper, seems like a very active community. I'm glad to be here, hope I can help out instead of just eating up everyone elses time!

Hi Egon! Welcome to the world of PC. 8D

I honestly am not sure on methods to keep your file safe in case of a cartridge failure, though the Pokemon Box Ruby & Sapphire utility does work as a means of Pokemon storage in FR/LG so methinks that would be your best bet. I've never owned that "game" personally and don't quite know how easy (or expensive!) it'll be to get your hands on. If you have more specific questions I hope you'll continue asking in the Advance Generation board, as you have already. :)

Looking forward to having you here with us! Happy to chat anytime if you'd like so feel free to give me a poke if you're looking for a friend. Enjoy the forum~

    Hello and welcome!
I can't be much of an assistance on your questions, but I did want to leave you a quick message welcoming you to the community. It is true that it's an active place! I am sure you could find someone to help you with your questions as well.

Enjoy your time here! Feel free to leave me a VM if you're ever bored. I am sure you will find a niche here in one of the many sub forums.

And a big hello to you Egon! Awesome to meet you.

Like Saki, I probably don't know much about your question either but that won't stop me from saying hello, and don't worry you were spot-on about PC being a very active community where you will meet really cool people along the way. Good luck with getting some help for your question, because there's always someone who can assist you with any questions you have.

I'm always open for a visitor message if you want to talk, but I hope you have fun around here and do stay active when you can. Enjoy your stay and I'll catch you around!

Thanks everyone! Glad to be here. I have not been known to branch out on my use of forums for various different things, but this place just looked too active to pass up. Looking forward to contributing.

I'll definitely be around the Advance Gen forums the most, as I'm going to need some help getting started with RSE and the GameCube games. Never have been a part of a "pokemon community" before, really just kind of a lone wolf who battles his little brother over the holidays, haha. Can't wait to learn more about the game, becasue even with FR/LG, I'm sure there are plenty of things I could be doing more efficiently.

Thanks again for the weclome! Time to take care of the Rockets in Silph Co........not really looking forward to it........

    Hey, Egon!

Even though I'm a bit late, I still would like to personally welcome you to PokéCommunity! Since your questions seemed to have already been answered, I don't really have much else to say except that PC was definitely worth not passing up. Not only are the people here extremely friendly, they're also really helpful (as I'm sure you've established based on previous replies to both this topic and your Advanced Generation one).

If you're looking for a friend, you are more than welcome to add me! Best of luck taking out those Rocket Grunts down at Silph Co., haha!

Thanks! And you are correct, everyone here seems more than helpful. I'm on floor 9, almost outta here with my Master ball.

QUICK QUESTION: For anyone really. I have never tried the "soft resetting" that everyone gets legendary shiny with. I saw a post (I think in the Advance Gen sub forum) about a guy who had it timed on his RSE games or something. Anyways, I have never seen one, to my knowledge......although I probably slaughtered a few back in the day when I had no idea I was to be looking for them. Whoops.

Welcome to PC! If the games are your interest you'll probably want to check out the Pokemon Gaming area. That being said, what is your question? If you want to soft reset you typically press and hold a combination of buttons, you can read about it here.

As for backing up your game files I think you'll probably need an action replay or a flash cart. If I'm understanding what you're asking you'll probably find the answer in either this video or this one. It involves downloading a program known as "GBA Back-Up Tool" and using a DS. I can't seem to find anything for using a GBA flash cart, but it might work largely the same if you have a way to write the files from the GBA retail cart onto the GBA flash cart. Just be careful! You don't want to wipe your data trying to create a back up.

If that sounds too complicated or you don't want to risk losing all your Pokemon you can always transfer them over to a different game until you're sure the process works or that you understand it. I'm not an expert on it so I don't know if I will be of much help, but I hope you find a way to do it! If you need any help(about this issue or just in general about the forums) you can always drop me a VM or a PM and I'll do my best!

Anyways, again, welcome to PC! I hope you enjoy your time here.

I've read about a lot of what you mentioned. Really I'm just looking to avoid a cart failure, really that simple. Maybe I can transfer them all on to Colosseum..... after I beat the game and am able to anyway? I've just put a lot of hours into this already and will have a lot more coming, just wanted to make sure they were all safe! Haha.

I'm having a bit of difficulty understanding your question, but I'll try my best to help out anyway.

The way people encounter shiny legendaries with the soft reset method is that every time they soft reset, there are hidden values in the background that change. Values such as nature, gender, and yes, whether the Pokémon is a shiny or not. So essentially, it comes down to luck.

The most common way a person uses the soft reset method is they save before they encounter the legendary, and each time they fail at getting what they want (in your case a shiny legendary), they soft reset until they do. Again, it comes down to luck -- sometimes you'll encounter a shiny on your first try, other times you'll encounter a shiny on your 200th time.

    Hope this answers your question!

Ya, you got me. I know of the save just before and then soft reset method. I was just wondering how successful it was and if there were any ways to manipulate it to make the chance of finding a shiny a little bit higher.

While it doesn't work in Fire Red, if you have a generation 4/5 game, you can always use the Masuda Method. You just breed two pokemon from different countries. I.E. A pokemon from a Japanese version of the game and one from a US version. It only works in Gen 4 onward though, and you can't migrate Pokemon back to the GBA game from the DS game so it wouldn't help you in this particular case. Sounds crappy but you're only way is to continue soft resetting, especially considering if its in regards to a legendary which you can't breed anyway.
