Out of curiosity, how many of you have your career in Information Technology or plan on making it your career? Or is tech just a hobby of yours?

Personally. I am a Systems Administrator for a small company. I am the I.T. department. XD

I'm about to start work as a developer for AT&T.

Started out with web design/development as a hobby, but that turned into a passion alongside my interest in video games, and my whole interest with technology increased. Now I'm in an IT program working to become a systems analyst c:

It's going to be a hobby-turned career for me probably. I started getting to know more about technology in 2009—so much that I wanted to change my major to something in the technology industry. Right now I'm going through school to get an A.S. in Computer Programming, which could soon transfer onward towards a B.A.S. degreen in Information Technology.

It became a hobby for me during high school. Began taking loads of computer-related classes as well as volunteered at a local middle school to get my hands full. However, I wasn't even planning on jumping into the IT industry at the time. By the time I finished my first year of college, I realized I took more computer systems classes than the classes required for my major, and so I decided to change my major to IT, which lead me to transferring to a tech school in San Diego. I find myself extremely fascinated with technology, to the point that it has become a vocal point in most of my conversations with family members and irl friends. Tech support is my strongest field, so helping others with their problems is something I'd like to do, especially since I get phone calls/texts almost every day from family and friends asking me to fix their computers/devices (hehe, I never get tired of them, really!). But honestly, networking has piqued my interest so I wouldn't mind going for a career as a network admin.

It is just a hobby for me, but so much of a hobby that I am pretty much the go-to person for any technology-related issues among my friends and family. I might try to get into an IT career, but almost all of my experience is with consumer-grade tech, so I'm a bit worried about having to start from scratch.

I most definitely want to make it a career, but I don't want to Wozniak it as I'm totally not against getting involved in business alongside it. Since I'm so young its hard for even me to tell heads from tails with what I want to do, but I feel best about majoring in CS and having a business field as my minor; I definitely want to have an executive influence on applied electronics but I don't want business to be my main focus, you know?

In my two years so far of high school, out of all the people I've conversed with for more than 5 minutes I've met one person who thought about computers on the level I did, and it was great. It was as if I had to explain nothing - it was already there; that tells me that my interest in computers and their logistics, application, and philosophy makes me incredibly apt for such a career. With that I feel very driven to execute influence and decision over something that I've loved and enjoyed since kindergarten, so the two fit together rather nicely. :)

I'm kinda going into a career in information technology. I've just finished the second year of my degree in Secondary Education with Information Technology and Computer Science (Try saying that three times fast) so by the end of it I'll have a career all set up to be a high school ICT and Computing teacher. Technically it will be in education and so will my degree but the amount of time spent using computers and programming languages to create resources to teach the little ones how to code I think it counts as a job in IT.
