3-7: Unruly
🏘️ Petalburg Ranger Station / Outdoors 🕙 Sept. 22nd, Night
"I can't believe you got that close!" The glow of the bonfire lit up the incredulous expression of a young, wide-eyed girl. "Where was their mom? Teddiursa cubs never stray too far, I thought."
She was one of a small posse of admirers Marcella had accumulated at this little bonfire. After taking a fair amount of time in the bathroom braiding her hair and freshening up, it was near impossible to tell she'd been chased through the trees by an Ursaring, and she spent the rest of her evening chatting and telling a slightly embellished tale of her time in the outskirts with a charming smile. Anything can be a good story if you know how to spin it, and she did.
"Mom was there! I think she sensed a good energy about me, though, so she didn't feel too threatened by my presence. You just gotta be calm and confident." Marcella sipped her drink thoughtfully, draining the cup of its contents. "Oh, sweetie, I think I need a refill. Just water this time, please."
She looked around at the other faces surrounding her as the girl eagerly sprang up to refill her cup. Gawky, outdoorsy teens who were all mostly younger than her—not her usual crowd, but it felt good to be at the center of attention again, regardless.
Bijou purred away contentedly next to her, having had a few too many smores. A cheat day—Marcella told herself—the Purrloin deserved it after what she'd put her through today. Opal, Midas and Pearly were out as well; it seemed like everyone at the gathering had their Pokémon out and about, so she didn't see any harm in letting them out to mingle. It was probably fine.
Most likely.
But just to be sure, she quickly scanned the site for them; Pearly was easy to spot—she and her heavy shell was exactly where Marcella left her, in the shallow end of a small pond the other Trainers' Water Pokémon were chilling at. The other two, though...
"What's up?" Just then, Parker hopped over the log she was on and sat down next to her, interrupting her thoughts.
"Not much, just admiring the view."
"Same." He threw in casually, with a cheeky smile tugging up the corner of his lips. "Can't even tell there was a nest in your hair earlier." Marcella smirked back, rolling her eyes. His eyes did not stay on her for long, though; he looked like he was searching for something, too, but lower to the ground.
"You see Taylor around, by the way? I sent— I asked her to bring me some more water like five minutes ago."
"Taylor... Oh, yeah, I passed her on my way out. Sammy can't find her wallet, so everyone's kinda spread out looking for it."
"Ah." She clicked her tongue disappointedly. Thirsty.
News of the lost wallet spread quickly, and most of her entourage had gotten up and scattered to search for it as well. Marcella relented, peeking behind her log and a few nearby boulders to look like she was also helping, but she wasn't overly invested in this new group activity; girl should have just taken better care of her belongings, honestly. She stood up to head inside and grab a drink for herself, but a familiar, white fluff was rolling towards her, bumping into the log she stood up from with an impact that startled the still-seated Parker and Bijou.
"Oh, there you are." Marcella commented on the Wooloo now prancing in circles around her. At the same time, a long tail lightly wrapped around her leg, and the soft, clinking noise of his collared tags announced Midas' arrival as well, as he padded up to her. "I'm glad they're having fun."
"Yeah, it's good to let 'em out and play with other Pokémon."
Reaching down to give Midas some chin scratches, she realized something and froze. Wait a minute, you don't have a collar. I never gave you a collar. "Oh, no, you did not..." she started, horrified, as it dawned on her what the clinking noise really was. The oblivious Meowth presented his find proudly. It was more of a cloth pouch than a "wallet", but that was unmistakeably not Marcella's, and she knew where it was from.
"Why have you done this to me?" She hissed, snatching up the pouch and glancing around, before continuing in a hushed tone. "I said I'd give you coins, come to me if you want to play! You're not an alley cat anymore, you don't have to—"
Her mortified expression was not returned when she whipped around to give Parker a 'what do I do?!' look, and he grinned back amusedly.
"Well, you can take the cat out of the alley, but you can't take— okay, calm down," He laughed at her humourless expression. "I think he just enjoys the sport. They do that, Meowth. Don't worry, people around here know that, they're not gonna blame you."
"I can't believe you guys. Come on, we are giving this back right now."

Parker was right—no big fuss was made about the returned money, which helped soften the blow to her ego a little, but still did not fully dissipate the embarrassment Marcella felt from discovering the larceny. Short of keeping Midas in his Ball all the time, she was going to have to figure out some way to deal with this... compulsion of his.
"Oh, by the way, Thursday's my day off and I'm going to visit family in Littledale, do you want to come with?" Parker asked as they helped clean up after the bonfire.
Marcella wrinkled her nose. "What's in Littledale?" She asked a bit too quickly, before remembering she was charged with returning a certain little menace currently in her care to Littleroot. She was headed out that way eventually. Parker doesn't know that, of course, and it meant something else to him.
"You're a Trainer, right? The next closest Gym is there." He gave her a funny look. She shrugged. Yeah, yeah, that, too. "Speaking of, I guess you wouldn't have had time to challenge the Petalburg Gym yet, unless you went real early this morning. If you need more time, we can do next week instead."
"Tch. No, I can figure it out by Thursday." She gathered a few things from her time chatting with the others at the bonfire. "Normal-type, right? I got it."
"You sound confident about that." He remarked. "Been training hard?"
Shut up. "Uh huh. I'll see you on Thursday."
