Another general interest poll! Pretty self explanatory title - how do you typically play your Switch, and why? Or if you had a Switch, how would you play it?

I think I've played it docked a grand total of twice, and that was only because I needed to use my Pro Controller to do a tilt puzzle in a shrine in Breath of the Wild the first time, and couldn't see what I was supposed to be doing in Xenoblade 2 the second time. Apart from that, it's been all handheld, all the time.

It depends on the game AND the situation.

When it's at the shop with my boss, I can't bring the dock thus we prefer handheld or in tablet mode with the grip.

When I'm playing alone and want true immersion, like any PS console or PC game, I like it docked. I have no interest in the pro-controller for that, however, as I feel the grip is just fine and adds to the uniqueness of the console. I didn't buy a Switch just to play it like a PS3. Docked with the grip is my preferred way.

But at the same time, I've grown to appreciate said games in handheld mode when I fear the power might go out, it's late at night, using it while I'm waiting for something on the TV, or just for a quick fix.
So I can honestly say that by now, I've played in every mode about the same time; but overall, I'd say I prefer docked... generally.

But I have to answer that it just depends. With that console, it's versatile for a reason.

For local multiplayer I always play docked (I did try undocked with the kickstand once, it was awful) but for singleplayer it's pretty equal. I love the portability of it, even at home sometimes I'll play undocked so I can lie down or sit somewhere else, but it's also nice to play games on the big screen.

I don't have a TV atm, so I always play undocked, obviously.

When I have a TV again starting in August, I'm not sure what I'm gonna do. Probably will depend a lot on what I ultimately end up feeling is most comfortable with... I love how the controller feels, but since my TV lacks a stand and has to lean on something at the correct height, it might not be very likely I'll be able to have it in a good set up.

On the other hand, sometimes my arms & neck get really tired when playing it in handheld mode.

It depends on if the TV is free or not! I like seeing my video games on the big screen, but my little brother has a PS4 on the same TV, so when he's on his PS4 I play it handheld.

It's usually docked most of the time just because I need that Ethernet adapter hooked up so I don't get crappy connection while playing Splatoon 2.

But really, aside from Breath of the Wild, everything else has been mostly docked. Probably would have played Xenoblade 2 in handheld more often if it didn't look so bad either.

I move around a lot, so it is almost always undocked. Especially since I will be traveling soon, so it will be undocked for the majority of the time I am away from home.

Once I get mine, I'll only ever play portably. It's just so comfortable for me to hold a system in my hands like a handheld, plus I still haven't upgraded my TV from the cruddy old 2003 screen we've had for ages. ha ):

You have to dock it to charge though. And so long as you have an HDMI port, you can connect.

Of course; when it needs charging I'll keep it docked and probably not play it, since I don't have the best attention span for video games anymore anyway. The experience playing on a TV just isn't as great when your screen is so small and old....but I never use it, so there wasn't any justification to buy a new one. =(
