How to Tell if your Child is a Goth

*sigh* Another one of those misguiding examinations that do nothing more but create problems between parents and their teen, already-in-age-specific-Confusion children that could possibly permanently break tha link between 'em. <_<

Okay, tch, here goes...
-Shows an interest in piercings or tattoos. (Superficially piercing, yeah, tch, my fingers with my compass and holding it up to show how dumb I can act. Tattoos -- I'd be interested in a Dragon tattoo.)

-Listens to gothic or any other anti-social genres of
music. (Yep, tch, an' it sounds cool too. ^_^)

-Associates with other people that dress, act or speak
eccentrically. (Well I'm that way, tch, so it's only normal that I look for ppl like me... an' as far as I'm concerned eccentricity ain't bad, it's just different. Ignorant ppl'd be surprised how bright an' deep such ppl can be.)

-Shows a declining interest in wholesome activities, such
as: the Bible, prayer, church or sports. (I'm an atheist, yeah. Sports? Bah, tch, I'm a computer geek. Tha best I can do at a sport is faint after five minutes. XP)

-Shows an increasing interest in death, vampires, magic,
the occult, witchcraft or anything else that involves Satan. (Magic?! I LOVE it! Tch, this boring world'd be soooo much better if it were full of such fantasy stuff like heroes, magic, Dragons... ^_______^ Death, vampires? W00t! Kewl. ^^ "Give... me... blood..." Satan? Nope, tch, like I said, I'm an atheist.)

-Complains of boredom. (Well what tha hell am I supposed ta do?! Tch, I've got school, homework, an' other crappy activities keepin' me away from PC! >_<)

-Sleeps too excessively or too little. (Meh, tch, my sleep was never something balanced. ^^;;)

-Is excessively awake during the night. (I sleep alot durin' the afternoon, tch, an' it's the only way I cen be on time zone with my foreign 'net friends. -_- Besides, tch, night soothes me.)

-Dislikes sunlight or any other form of light. (This pertains to
vampires promoting the idea that His light is of no use.) (Well not ta THAT degree, tch, but sunlight can hurt yar eyes after too much comp. >_<)

-Demands an unusual amount of privacy. (Meh, tch, I can't chat about Draconization or look at tasty Dragoness pics with my parents around, now can I? o_O Besides, it's better than havin' mom in my room watchin' her blasted soap operas. >_<;;;)

-Spends large amounts of time alone. (I'm never alone as long as I have internet... tch, an' at least I can fantesize much easier when alone.)

elders are but a few examples of this. (I've always had a problem with authority. Never liked obeyin', tch, an' never will obey. Sorry, go find yarselves another slave. <_<)

-Misbehaves at school. (If ya mean playin' music in classes, makin' unnecessary comments, eating pieces of scraped-off wall, hollering, Licking benches and hyperness, then that's me. ^_^)

-Eats excessively or too little. (I eat EXCESSIVELY allright if it's fries, pizza, an' other good junk, tch, an' NOTHING if it's soup, fruits, vegetables, etc... don't like their taste. <_<)

-Drinks blood or expresses an interest in drinking blood.
(Vampires believe this is how to attain Satan. This act is very dangerous and should be stopped immediately.) (Well if I'm bleedin' yeah, tch, I like its taste... besides why let it spill out an' go ta waste when I can Recycle it? It contains alotta iron an' proteins ya know. o_O)

-Plays videos games that contains violence or role-playing nature. (If ya mean animes, yeah. I sometimes even get off tha chair an' start fighting imaginary ppl anime-style right in tha middle of tha show if it gets my imagination too hyper. o_o; An' RPGs like Final Fantasy an' Pok?mon rock. XP)

-Uses the internet excessively and frequently makes time for the computer. (Yep. PC rocks, tch, an' my only true friends are on messengers. An' if anyone says net friendships can't be as good ar real world ones then they're wrong an' probably never heard of webcams an' mics. XP)

-Violently shakes head to music. (ROCK ON!!!!111oneonemilkshakeinmybrains)

-Dances to music in a provocative or sexual manner. (I don't usually dance, tch, but when I DO dance I usually inflate one cheek, turn to a side, and start letting the air out in poofs while shaking hands chaotically an' spasming out like a retard. Does that count as provocative or just plain idiotic? Oo;)

-Expresses an interest in sex. (Mostly yuri or Dragons, tch, but nothing IRL. >_>)

-Is homosexual and/or bisexual. (I'd be a lesbian if I were a girl. Oo;)

-Pursues dangerous cult religions. Such include: Satanism, Scientology, Philosophy, Paganism, Wicca, Hinduism and Buddhism. (What's with scientology an' philosophy? Are they what they sound like, or do I have to google 'em? Oo; Anyways, I'm an atheist an' I believe in tha power of science. o.o)

-Wears pins, stickers or anything else that contains these various phrases: "I'm so gothic, I'm dead", "woe is me", "I'm a goth". (I sometimes stick notes like "Out Of Order" or "Intel Inside, Idiot Outside" ta my forehead. Oo;)

-Claims to be a goth. (Sorta... tch, but even though dark-ish stuff appeals ta me I ain't actually in a goth cult or relligion. But sometimes I can act really evil an' dementedly, psycho-ish scary-like. o.o;;;)

If five or more of these apply to your child, please intervene immediately. The gothic culture is dangerous and Satan thrives within it. If any of these problems persist, enlist your child into your local mental health center.

My rating: poorly built, inaccurate, misleading, bashes homosexuals/bisexuals by classifying it as a symptome of gothicism exclusively. <_<

Reccomendation: Not to be taken literally, each point should have its own score, and a certain total of points should point out to gothicism, and not tha number of affirmatively-answered questions as it is now.

"How to tell if your child is a goth"? Wow, the way people use the word goth now is a very distorted version of the original purpose of the word and it's association.

A goth was a member of a part of the Germanic people that invaded the Roman Empire in the early Christian era.
All in all, when people claim to be gothic, I just laugh at them.

Let's not forget that the list is just a load of irrelevant crap, having signs of any of the listed does not imply that you are a goth. Half of them are simply signs of adolescence and a rebellious attitude.
 
Friggit, how can you all be so gullible as to think that the average Christian defines the goth culture so broadly? I've seen this list posted at different forum by ignorant people, for ignorant people, and it ends up being a lightning rod of hatred toward something that the people replying don't even know about. If you believe that this is religious edict you're deluding yourself.

Most of the world is taught that moral relativism and absolute acceptance is the only way to live, which, in an irony that many won't admit to, is one of the impositions of opinion that so many here have expressed animosity toward. Let me play Devil's Advocate here for a second (and, again, how unfortunate and ironic that in this instance I must refer to the list as something supposedly evil) and say that people have a right to their own moral code, and they have a right to be vocal about their opinions. What many of you have missed out on here is the beauty that is law and structure, and in your youthful nature to rebel and your social call to reject, you instantly proclaim anyone with an opinion that paints to you a picture in blacks and whites rather than shades of grey as "evil."

There is no word more overused, no word more misunderstood than evil. To the average young adult, good and evil's meanings are switched, and any person with a purpose to spread a particular vision of what the common good is (or, more accurately, any person with a purpose to spread a particular vision of something that infringes on the hedonism of or criticizes the sociocultural/sexual identity of others...especially yourself) is evil, scum, inhuman, or at best, merely insane. The person who wrote the article has a positive intention in what they are saying , and even though they have committed the unpardonable social sin of sharing their own vision of right and wrong, people denounce them for having an opinion different than theirs. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the epitome of intolerance, even though holier-than-thou accusations intolerance are being bandied about in this thread to make the author of the list seem like a villain. To blindly reject someone, to hate someone and belittle someone out of mere difference is what is happening. Many of you need to redefine what you consider hatred; many of you need to accept the existance of moral codes, even those you do not share. For what kind of person does it make you if you denounce someone for their beliefs? It's petty.

I may not agree with everything that the author says, but I can still accept it. Mockery is unnecessary; this thread was even more unnecessary.

I completely agree with what Chairman Kaga said. I don't think that every person who claims to be a 'goth' is satanic, and I'm Catholic ;P In fact, I can barely think of one Christian I know who would think so.

I do find it veeeery annoying when people call themselves goths though. If everyone knew what 'gothic' meant, you wouldn't see half so many people calling themselves 'goths'.

But... I do think that someone who applied to every one of those "symptoms" should take councilling ^___^

Besides half of the points that supposedly marks you as a goth are biased. Since when does being a pagan make you a goth? That offends me.

-Wears pins, stickers or anything else that contains these various phrases: "I'm so gothic, I'm dead", "woe is me", "I'm a goth".

-Claims to be a goth.

-Dislikes sunlight or any other form of light. (This pertains to
vampires promoting the idea that His light is of no use.)

-Demands an unusual amount of privacy.

-Spends large amounts of time alone.

-Requests time alone and quietness. (This is so that your chid may speak to evil spirits through meditation.)

-Insists on spending time with friends while unaccompanied by an adult.

-Watches cable television or any other corrupted media
sources. (Ask your local church for proper programs that your child may watch.)

If five or more of these apply to your child, please intervene immediately. The gothic culture is dangerous and Satan thrives within it. If any of these problems persist, enlist your child into your local mental health center.

All of this is BS. What kind of person would actually believe this? It's basically trying to get you to become a holy person...I oculd rant about this forever. But whatever, this is stereotyping...BTW 20 of these thing apply to me
