How would you feel about A New Generation with only New Pokemon?

It's very hypothetical, and not so likely at all to happen.

But say in a few years, in a few more generations, too many Pokémon exist to continue programming in for every entry of the series.

So 200 new Pokémon are added. However no old Pokémon are returning. Aside from some who would be released in occasional events due to popular demand.

How would you feel about a new game in the series that does this? A bit similar to the original Black/White, except older Pokemon won't be in the post game.

Pokemon would not be available to trade over. It would be like a reboot in the series.

I feel conflicted. Part of me wouldn't mind because I like the feel of a new journey altogether. I like meeting new characters, starting a new journey without references to past generations bring thrown about every turn, having a new experience overall.

But I realize this is seeing things through rosy lenses and that kind of new carpet smell but in Pokemon would only last so long as the reality sets in that I wouldn't able to transfer my older Pokemon up to the newer games and I would get bored pretty quickly. I feel like this would be fun for the short term, but probably not for the long term.

It was a bit daunting not knowing ANY pokémon especially mid battle when you don't know what type the next pokémon is.
I'd prefer some older gen pokémon so there's a bit of familiarity.

kind of, but in BW's case you could at least transfer Pokemon from any Gen IV game up to Gen V iirc. This hypothetical scenario is asking what if that was removed altogether, from the best of my understanding.

There would be other potentially positive factors.

If time was cut from adding in the older Pokemon, I assume so much would be added into other aspects of the game. As well as the attention on designing the 200 new additions I mentioned.

While one point was mentioned about the lack of trading quickly causing boredom after the story, completing the Pokedex would once again become much more doable.

I did get the idea from Black/White. On a side note, I really regret playing competitive before playing the Gen 5 games. Since I already became familiarized with the Pokémon before even playing.

While I liked what Black and White were going for, it was a shame that we weren't able to use any older Pokemon until the post game. Sure, it was interesting trying to learn about all the new Pokemon, but when you see NPCs either talking about or having Pokemon from other regions, it made you wonder why you couldn't use them, too.

I also felt that Sun and Moon went in the wrong direction, too. There weren't all that many new Pokemon introduced, and in certain areas, were very hard to find compared to older Pokemon, despite being native to Alola.

I would love if we had 75-100 new non-legendary Pokemon in an upcoming game, and aside from some common Pokemon that would make sense for the area, make it so that the local Pokemon are the ones we predominantly run into. I think that would give us the best of both worlds by making us familiar with the new Pokemon, but giving us the option of older ones if we go looking for them.

personally, i try to use all the new pokemon at first playthrough. feels more like a new journey. When I replay, then I should consider old pokemon
so yes to only new pokemon. just as long as there are a good number of them.

I'd like that! A big part of why BW was so fun for me was because you were limited to brand new Pokémon, which made going through it so interesting and fun. Would definitely enjoy playing. =)

I feel like they could emphasize the "catch 'em all" aspect but without all bringing back every existing Pokémon each game, kinda like they did in the Alol games without a National Pokédex, but with more new Pokémon (and with their distribution being balanced, so that the game does not feel bloated with older ones) and no possibility of transferring older ones, the idea behind being that every title has a different set of Pokémon you could find and use in, with Pokémon going and returning so that the series could still feel fresher instead of having some Pokémon (especially Gen I ones) being there in every game.

While that's basically what R/S did and back then this resulted in a lot of backlash, the growing number of Pokémon and the different nature of the games imho calls for a solution like this, so that having less programmed Pokémon means having less models and animations to be made, so that the developers can focus more on having better animations (Pokémon in Colosseum and XD imho still feel more alive than in any 3DS game) and on other stuff in the game; also the titles would ideally have a lot more variety of Pokémon than R/S had. A solution like this one imho would prevent the need for a total reboot while making each game feel more unique.

ew lol. that would be weird. so like let's go basically? you can only get THESE GUYS and NO ONE ELSE with no updates or ability to trade? that feels like it ruins the essence of the series by not letting you do the catch phrase and catch them all.

but i'm a dumb bitch so i'd still buy it lmfaoooo.

I'd love it save for the lack of ability to transfer older Pokémon in the post-game. I loved how BW included only new Pokémon; I like using new ones each gen anyways, so I don't get bored with the same team over and over and over again, so BW gave me far more options and made exploring to discover them all fun (compared to, say, gen 7, where there were so few new Pokémon I almost had to resort to using old ones to finish up my team--not that that was hard, considering most of the time the older Pokémon were far more common than the newer ones anyways) . But you should be able to transfer your older Pokémon in the post-game. It wouldn't be fair for them to never be accessible again.
