dang even planes are special to me considering i've only ridden them ~5 times in my lifetime (and just to neighboring provinces). i've been so interested in those high speed mag lev style trains Japan has. they're the first image that pops into my mind when thinking of trains. next being Thomas the Tank Engine lmao

Oh, the Shinkansen? Those seem really sweet, I'd love to ride in one. I can't imagine it'd be too different from what I've seen in anime and being on a long-distance train myself. Seems pretty cool.

What's the 411 guys?
I had to remind myself what 411 meant because my mind went to 911 and I was very confused what accident could've happened while I was away...

Ash being ancient confirmed 😔

I love riding trains. Normally I only like "experience journeys" - steam trains and the like - packed public transport really isn't my thing, although the Shinkansen will be one of the first things I do if I ever get to Japan.

The best I've ever been on was the Glacier Express, it was amazing!

ohh so that's what they're called locally. epic name. wanna ride one even more now.

and yessir stuff like New York train rides i see in movies where it's packed to the brim with people is no bueno for me. i'd just want to ride for the experience, not make it an everyday thing or anything.

I wouldn't have imagined you're much older than me, honestly. Maybe by a few years but nothing you can't count on a single hand...

Yup, Shinkansen is the Japanese name of it, basically. They're just referred to in English as bullet trains though, I believe. Better to learn "Shinkansen" so you know what it's called when you get there, and the knowledge doesn't hurt!

I post this one often, but man it's a favourite of mine.~

Same, I would've been planning a trip for last November if, y'know, stuff didn't happen. It'd be cool to go though, since there are a lot of places I'd love to check out, and apparently my dad wants to go to see family, so I have an easy way of convincing him to take me. The language barrier is absolutely terrifying to me though, I've never really been in that kind of situation and I can't imagine what it'd be like...

You're correct! I've only been posting Setsuna gifs so far but I'm considering branching out, since I'm sending repeats at this point. Will I? Who knows.~

I have been learning Japanese recently.

Japanese can be, uhhh... pretty intimidating to learn at first. I don't know all that much, just basic reading. I don't know a lot of vocabulary, and it gets overwhelming when there are three different "languages", with one having 2000 characters people typically learn that can be pronounced different ways depending on context...

I think this is a good time to try learning something like that, but I haven't been able to do much because self-teaching is just not my style, and I've had trouble in language classes in school. I've still done (very) simple translations from friends and I learn a lot from the kinds of things I'm into (mainly anime and idol games).
As I don't really know the language much either (I won't pretend to) I'm not sure how much help I can be, but I've got a few links and resources I've sent to other friends who have been interested in learning it so hey, maybe there's something. Best of luck, Ganbaruby!~

that's tough. i've always wanted to see for myself just how clean the streets actually are, since apparently that's what Japan is known for.

the language barrier is indeed something that hinders me from thinking about going there too much. folks don't have subtitles below them sadly, and i haven't anything about Japanese since that one college class i took :S

ooh i know this! i think...

Hiragana is for native words and stuff, while Katakana is used for international/foreign labels? i dunno if i explained it right but i believe that to be the main gist of it.
