Is Ash Smart?

Yes, I believe Ask Ketchum is a very smart Pokémon trainer actually. Of course, he loses battles and such, and chooses not to evolve some of his Pokémon because either they do not wish to evolve or he is fine with their current evolutionary stage. He does wish to "catch 'em all", but does not want to harm the balance of nature or anything, or even remove Pokémon from their habitat if they do not want to be removed.

When it comes to obtaining any of the legendary Pokémon, he usually cannot. Many of them have been in states where they are in need of help, and some of them would ruin the balance of nature if they were caught. You must also keep in mind that it would be very difficult for him to simply capture them when normally he only is equipped with Pokéballs. Many legendaries would take quite some time to capture without at least Greatballs.

There have also been some instances where Ash Ketchum has tried to capture a legendary Pokémon, and did not succeed. I believe he has even tried multiple times on some of the same Pokémon.

Ash Ketchum, my favourite Trainer of all time. Okay lets get this straight, Ash is only 10 years old so when you see him make wrong decisions don't say he is not smart, say he is young because that is what he is, he is immature so he makes wrong decisions.

Ash is a very smart and a great battler, and you might not notice this but he is a great tactician as well. His tactics showed from the start when he battled Raichu in the Vermilion gym episode when he used Pikachu's speed against Raichu, since then he got better and better and he seemed to get more mature as he progressed through his training. Now i am going to pick out the Battle Frontier, every single brain battle, he used so much tactics and type disadvantages to his own advantage that he suprised me a lot and at that point he was a great tactictian to me.

To answer your question Ash Ketchum is Smart but quite Immature.

10 Years old for like 10 seasons i dont think so, smart battler doesnt make him smart as a character, and WTF he always has to use his pokedex on pokemon he has already seen like multiple times. Ash seems to have a short term memory or something, ever notice it.

I think that Ash is stupid when his Pidgeotto finally evolved to a Pidgeot he just releases it and his Primape and some pokemon that he has with Proffersor Oak he should keep and train like his herracross or his muk, or his bulbasaur and charizard lives in Charizan or whatever island i think that his pikachu sucks

I disagree entirely for many reasons. I would be most happy to explain.

He never released Pidgeot, but instead the Pidgeot stayed with its band of Pidgeys and Pidgeottos, thus making Pidgeot the leader or role model for the group. If Ask Ketchum did not let Pidgeot do this, the band of Pidgeys and Pidgeottos could of got themselves in danger once more, so Ask Ketchum is a very caring person.

He actually left his Primape with another trainer who could handle him somewhat better than Ask Ketchum could. He was still near the beginning of his journeys, so he wasn't as experienced of a Pokémon trainer. I am quite sure he could handle him now.

You must remember that you can only keep six Pokémon out with you at a time. It is the official Pokémon League rules, as Professor Oak once stated himself when Ask Ketchum caught a Krabby.

As you may see, Ask Ketchum isn't at all a "stupid" Pokémon trainer, rather many of those things occurred early in his adventures.

remember, though, that caring does not mean intelligent. Like overprotective soccermoms. they care too much to be intelligent, and are the reason why video games are getting blamed on everything. School shootings, violence, 9/11, for crying out liud!

but i'm rambling again, aren't i? I tend to do that.....

an intelligent person and a caring one are two very different things. you can be both, but Ash isn't....

so what if he only can carry six pokemon? he can still train them, and, if i recall correctly, having played the games since the good old days of red and blue, use the PC to swap them out for the others.

seriously, who in their right mind releases a pidgeot because one tiny band of pidgeys is in some trouble? I know I wouldn't. I pretty much obliterated every single one of the johto gyms in Gold using nothing but a pidgey i caught and trained. i never got my starter past level 13, even.

ash should just stored his primeape in the pc until he had 8 badges, and BAM! problem solved.

my point is, the decisions Ash made aren't always intelligent.

The only really intelligent thing he did was to let his butterfree go. 'Cuz butterfree... umm... how can I say it without breaking the rules.....

From what I've heard, "soccor moms" don't seem caring. They seem ignorant. And instead of caring about their children seem more concerned about themselves eg their child was hurt - you don't hurt their property and get away with it. That's the impression I've got from it, anyway.

    He's a 10 year old with a man's voice. >_>

Edit: Well, not really a man, but nothing like a normal 10 year old.

Ash is not smart. A "couple" of examples from the anime:

    1. Ash caught himself a perfectly good Primeape in one episode and gave it away in the next.

    2. He once fell for a gimmick of talking Pokemon.

    3. He repeatedly falls for Team Rocket's horrible disguises.

    4. He thinks 'aromatherapy' is a new kind of Pokemon.

    5. He said, "Who's Tucker?", and everyone in the room faints because it's so obvious and the person just said it.

    6. He won a bazillion Elite Four championships, but every new Pokemon he comes to, he has no clue what it is.

    7. He is not smart.

    Do you believe me now?

    No. Not smart.

In the Johto League, he battled Falkner with a Chikorita. And I agree with the Team Rocket comment - anyone with long red hair and a pony tail is Jessie - but if she has a pair of MUCHO SHINY glasses he has no idea who she is.

He never even went looking for that guy with his Primape and it was listening to him then anyway I think it would be really good if His Pidgeot and Staravia (if it evolves Staraptar) flew of and have babies... lol... thats what Butterfree did. he would let them!

Ash can beat Lance the Champion but cant beat Agatha of the Elite Four
OFFTOPIC* Do you think Agatha and Beatha are related?

Ash isn't very smart, he's the typical clueless protagonist. However, he does have battle smarts and sometimes uses those as well.

I must honestly say, the question "Is Ash smart?" makes me lol.
Take for example the first season. He promises to come back and visit his Primape (Can't remember how to spell it) later on. He forgets he about, never mentions it, its dead to him. Even the scenario from that episode was all out of whack. Primape just won the Pokemon Fighting Tournament, (Or whatever it was called) and became the champ. He leaves it with that fighting guy so he can "train it to be a real champion". Then he goes through his heart-breaking goodbye. Not to mention that he just caught the episode before that. Then, in nearly every episode in the newer series, he and Brock can never see that Team Rocket's wearing those disguises.

Ash has an IQ of -15.

Ash is dumb. Plainly put. If you keep falling for the same scams, you really need a kick in the arm.

That's a good question. He's a good trainer, but I wouldn't say he's very smart. You'd think after 10 seasons, he's be able to recognize Team Rocket (even when they're wearing a disquise). :/
