Is Nintendo dying?

I know that we see new games every once in a while like a new Mario game or new Pokemon game, but the real question is, is Nintendo dying? Besides a few great game, the Wii U has been a flop and we haven't really seen much new from Nintendo this holiday season. Sales seem to be at an all time low (besides the new 3DS) and I'm just worried about what used to be my favorite company, not being my favorite anymore. Like where's the innovation, where are the big news that Nintendo used to dish out that is almost nonexisant?

I know that this post is very biased, and I am bashing them but what do you guys think? What do you think that Nintendo should do for the future?

Nintendo has been dying since 1996

But no, this is just you losing interest.

There are some real reasons to believe that they are dying. Their business have been declining pretty consistently since the Nintendo 64 days. Even though they keep making good games, and thankfully they do, the sales just aren't helping them as much to keep it running forever. Even the Wii surprise hit didn't bring them out of the rut as software sales didn't match up the system sales. Unlike Sony and Microsoft, which have other ventures, Nintendo just has their video game sales.

Why else did you think they started selling Amiibo's and rushing to make the new NX? They need to innovate fast, and bring third-party developers into the fold. As good as Mario, Zelda, Metroid games are, and no matter how good the 3DS is doing with Pokemon and (I'd guess) Yokai Watch, unless they expand their business like Sony/Microsoft, they probably won't survive. Especially when console gaming is dying fast due to the rise of PC gaming.

    What? They're fine

I couldn't find an up to date version, but 2012 aside, they're still making profit.

And dude, if consoles are dying it's not because of PC gaming. Accessibility is super important and PC gaming will never have that.

I know Spino has already beat me to it, but:

Countless times people have been predicting Nintendo's demise, and they always end up being wrong:

If the popularity of amiibos, the success of Splatoon, the Wii U being a top-seller at Target during Black Friday, and the fact that Nintendo topped Japanese Game Stock aren't enough for you to think they're still alive, then either you have some sort of vendetta against Nintendo or you have fallen towards full cynicism from all the bad decisions today's corrupted gaming market has made.

Nintendo dying? Hmm i don't think so yet although it has lost some power as you know (Creator passed away e.t.c) but i heard that nintendo will help and try to create some mobile games as well and one of those companies that agreed will be DeNA i don't know if you have heard of DeNA have some games like Blood Brothers 1&2,Final Fantasy Record Keeper,Marvel Mighty Heroes, Rage of Bahamut and more. And you already know that phones are starting to have good specs to support even emulators so if nintendo goes to android then i think it will be a nice turn of events for nintendo lol.

We've even had threads like this before. I recall at least one other too but couldn't find it in a lazy, quick search.

All companies have their ups and downs. Wii U is a down, but it's still made some sales, and more so the last couple years with the likes of MK8, Smash and Splatoon helping out. 3DS had a shaky start too, but a price cut and a number of games later, it's become a success even despite the cries of doom due to mobiles.

And hey, on the subject of 3DS - Fire Emblem or Bravely Default or a likely new Pokemon title next year, guys? Still getting stuff down the track for it! Monster Hunter X for the 3DS got a lazy 2 million + sales since it released in Japan last month as well.

Dying? -looks at 3DS, Amiibos, Zelda U, Splatoon, Star Fox Zero, Twilight Princess HD- ...Nope.

I think they're just having a down period right now, but I wouldn't say they're dying. Plenty of people have already pointed that out already so I don't have much to add.

I don't think Nintendo is 'dying'. Becoming increasingly more stagnant, sure, but not dying. They just seem to come out with consoles years before they have decent lineups for them. The 3DS was a joke until games like Awakening, Bravely Default, New Leaf were released in late 2012, and XY was announced in Jan 2013. And the WiiU was practically pointless until MK8 came out. I mean, just look at the New 3DS. There is..one game for it?

The hype for Amiibos is testament to Nintendos strength as a company, though. They are far from 'dying'.

Nintendo is not going anywhere anytime soon. It feels like they made so much money off the Wii and DS last generation that one can debate they can get away with screwing up for several more (if statistics are still true, the net worth of Nintendo is even if not more than all of Sony. Not just SCE.)

That having been said, I don't anticipate to see Nintendo bowing out. They would have to basically commit corporate suicide in order for that to happen anytime in the near future.

I wouldn't say Nintendo is dying at all. They definitely did take a pretty big hit with the Wii U, but enough to kill them? Nah.

In all honestly, I firmly believe both Sony and Microsoft as well, are also having a bit of trouble in the console department. Sure they are still bringing in money in these areas, but they make A LOT more money from their other products.

Nintendo is a bit different though, since they are pretty much a video game company, at least here in the U.S. I feel like Nintendo is moving back in the right direction though. The Wii U was a bit of a miss, but from all we've heard about the NX thus far, I think they're heading in the right direction. Also, there is quite a bit of profit to be made in the mobile market, so if the NX will be taking advantage of that in any way, shape, or form, I think it will be successful.
