3rd Gen is this a glitch?

i started a pokemon emerald playthrough a few days ago, and my torchic passed its evolution level. i didn't press the b button at all, the evolution screen didn't come up at all. is this a glitch that only happens when playing on a DS (i was playing on a ds), a normal glitch, or do i have a fake copy?

Glitches and the like have never been my strong suit, but there's things that can help narrow it down a bit

Try leveling it up again and see if it evolves this time (is it at least level 16?). Check to make sure it's not holding an Everstone. Posting pictures (both front and back) of your copy of Emerald will help us know if you have a fake copy or not. And I kinda doubt that playing it on a DS instead of a GBA would really have any affect.

also, i just leveled it up. it evolved. maybe it actually evolves at level 19...

Level 16 is where it should evolve.

I've actually never seen this before, either. It's also not listed as a well known glitch either. Cart also looks legit from what I can tell. How long do you own this cart? Have you played it on a GBA before? Did things work there correctly?

Are you sure you didn't have an everstone on your Torchic or it didn't faint, or anything? In earlier generations, I do know if a Pokemon faints and it hits its evolution level, it won't evolve.
