Assassins in the Palace skinned after the 1982 hit song "It's Raining Men" by The Weather Girls! It's a simpler twist on the usual informed minority (mafia) versus uninformed majority (town) formula, however, the town has more information than the mafia does, and it revolves around a small selection of roles.

    -
    Mother Nature, or "The King"
    -----
She's trying to send down the last angel in heaven, but he's nowhere to be seen! Her votes count as two. Aligned with town: if she gets eliminated, they instantly lose.

    -
    Weather Girls, or "The Guards"
    -----
A league of lonely women desperate to find the man of their dreams. The identity of Mother Nature will be in their role PM; it is their duty to keep her identity ambiguous! Aligned with town.

    -
The Perfect Guy, or "The Assassin"
    -----
Secretly gay, he's trying to escape this nightmare! Every night he can choose a player to eliminate from the game. Aligned with scum; if he gets lynched, it's an automatic win for the town.

    -
    Bonnie Tyler, or "The Fool"
    -----
She's trying to captivate everyone so her 1984 song "Holding Out for a Hero" eclipses the Weather Girl's fame. Aligned with third-party; she solo-wins if she gets lynched.

    -----
Day Phases are a period of 48 hours when the thread is open and everyone in the game discusses who to lynch at the end, eliminating them from the game. The town's objective is to find and eliminate whoever is playing "The Perfect Guy," while he himself is trying to blend in and figure out which player is "Mother Nature." Those phases are followed by 24-hour Night Phases, a time when the thread is locked and Night Actions are submitted.
    -
Format votes as [CATCH] Player; failure to do so will result in your vote not being counted. Missing two votes in a row will result in your replacement.
    -
Do not share or specifically quote PMs; keep all game discussion in the thread.
    -
If you are dead, you get one death post that may not contain any in-game information.
    -
Don't post during the Night Phase. Please submit your Night Action via Private/Discord Message to Who's Kiyo? Abstaining from your Night Action is disallowed.
    -
In the event of a tie, a RNG will determine who dies.

    Night Zero
    -----
A calm twilight was giving way to what was a seemingly peaceful night in the Underground. Who's Kiyo? straightened his tie and started getting ready for his first weather report, cracking a smile at the notion of an entire city watching him and eager to know what kind of day they'd be waking up to.

    -----
Suddenly, a panicked meteorologist burst into his dressing room. "Kiyo," she exclaimed, driving a set of statistics in to his hand, "you've gotta see this." Perturbed and morbidly curious, the weatherman skimmed through the report: several bar graphs, pie charts, number plots, and 3D models were all quadruple-circled and had aggressive arrows pointing to them in frenzied red pen. A bead of sweat dropped from his head.

    -----
"Humidity is rising ..." he said, utterly confused. Snapping himself out of it, he dug into the inside pocket of his suit jacket and took out one of his trusty instruments. Before he could even properly soak in its results, he gasped in horror. When his concerned co-worker urged him to speak, all he could say was the facts: "barometer's getting low," he whimpered.

    -----
"According to all sources," his companion confirmed. Kiyo glanced at the swirling clouds that were assembling outside his window. They didn't appear menacing, however: although they were tumultuous, they emanated a certain sense of relief and divine beauty. "The street's the place to go," the woman continued, ominously.

    -----
Not a second before showtime, the final analysis was jammed into Kiyo's hand. He immediately froze upon reading it, barely registering the fact that cameras were readying on his form and the giant "RECORDING" sign began glowing on his face. The staff and TV audience fell silent and leaned in, 'Cause ...

    -----
"Tonight," the man said, almost tripping over the words in his unparalleled excitement, "for the first time, just about half-past ten ... " Kiyo's emotions overwhelmed him and he had to catch his breath. He took another look at the crumpled up paper in his hand, no longer trusting his memory; if it wasn't for all the nerves jabbing needles into his skin, he'd swear he was in a dream. As the audience trembled, boiling in a mixture of anticipation and exhilaration, Kiyo swallowed and tried to find his voice.

    -----
"For the first time in history," he began again. But as soon as he spoke his senses were replaced with unbridled euphoria, and he couldn't resist the temptation to rip off his clothes and expose the rainbow briefs underneath. Those watching may have screamed with surprise, if they themselves didn't likewise erupt with deranged joy upon hearing what he shouted in tandem:

    "It's gonna start raining men!"
It's raining men, hallelujah, this phase will last 24 hours, amen!

    Day One
    -----
Though she had just got home and hadn't even taken off her shoes yet when the TV trumpeted the news, Pecilia was determined to seize this miraculous opportunity. She immediately dashed for the coat rack and proclaimed "I'm gonna go out."

    -----
"Wait honey," her mother butted in as Pecilia carelessly threw off her rain slicker, "what are you possibly planning on doing?!"

    -----
"To run and let myself get ..." Pecilia began clarifying, but at that moment she spotted a glowing light outside a nearby window. She stopped moving completely, and with mouth agape, focused enough to discover that it was an angel clinging to the side of the building. Not recognizing the distressed, homosexual expression on the being, Pecilia began running in the direction of the angel.

    -----
Unfortunately, she failed to remember that running towards glass usually ends in the breaking of said glass and unintentional defenestration, and, unfortunately, while the angel was tall, blonde, dark and lean, he proved that he was also rough and tough and strong and mean as he shoved the crazed woman latched on his heavenly robes off him, and, unfortunately, both didn't realize that performing this sequence of action from the space outside Pecilia's 45th-floor apartment would result in the unfortunate plummet of the aforementioned lonely girl onto the concrete sidewalk below. But as she fell, she shouted something that finished her previous sentence, described the current state of her pants, and properly illustrated how the incident would leave the surrounding area and nearby pedestrians: "absolutely soaking wet!"

Pecilia was one of the Weather Girls.
God bless Mother Nature, she gave us a Day Phase 48 hours long!

  • This will be interesting since we are all vanilla roles, so this will rely more on day talk than other games...

As for who would kill Pecilia, I would say it looks more like a random kill than anything else. I honestly don't like that suggestion of a wild goose chase, so [Catch] Bardothren

  • I'm not particularly familiar with Assassins in the Palace, so might need a bit more hand holding than other 'traditional' mafia games. We're trying to lynch/kill the Perfect Guy, on the lookout for Bonnie Tyler, whilst trying to guard Mother Nature, but how many other people would roughly be in the mafia? Is it just the Perfect Guy or does he have a band of 1-2 slightly less perfect underlings?

  • Oh, cool. Given the relatively small number of players, that makes sense, but I just wanted to confirm. It'll be interesting as to how a game progresses without a doc/cop/standard roles. Fun times!
