Design was pretty much the reason why I looked into Chihayafuru, I think it's really pretty in comparison to most series. The eyes are nice imo, much better than the key stuff and well, most art styles tbh.
Spoiler:

slice of life shows that are based around any club/game/whatevers quality are all down to how well the drama is done, I think this might be a winner but it's early days yet.

I agree with David, I also wish they used the part from the PV. I'm not saying I was "let down" by the part they used in the OP, it's just I would have liked it better had they used the other one. But still, really good OP can't wait for the full version.
Ep 2 was also a pretty good episode.

Oh hey, I'm back for a minute after a month off.

Ben-To is the best show of the season. Come at me animebros ;P I'm also keeping up with Fate/Zero, Boku ha Tomodachi blah blah, Code Geass S3 Guilty Crown, Ikamusume S2, Mirai Nikki, and Chihayafuru. I'll try and drop in for more detailed discussion more often XD

Guilty Crown
Spoiler:

my dearest on a 11/23 release date, can't wait for it ><

nah man, Persona 4 The animation is the best show of the season.

Speaking of which, I don't think Alan has heard the news regarding Persona 4 getting licensed by Sentai Filmworks for a North American release. I doubt he's going to be very pleased with that development. Also, thanks for reminding me about that anime. I'll get around to watching it...eventually. I might as well just stick with fansubs, because I don't have much faith in Sentai's ability to handle it properly.

I wonder if I'd appreciate Persona more if I'd played the game, I mean it's ok but I thought the first couple of episodes were pretty forgettable.

Ben-To is a lot of fun, I hope the novelty doesn't ware off too fast.

I think I've liked Chihayafuru and Mirai Nikki best so far although there's plenty of time for tha to change.

Ben-To is a nice show, but best this season? I don't think so. XD
To me Guilty Crown is at the top of my list for best show this season. It might change once some of the other shows picks up, but right now it's Guilty Crown.

My biggest prob with Guilty Crown is like what many others have said... feels like Code Geass. And true be told... I'm not the biggest fan of Code Geass (the first season I liked, but R2 left a bad taste in my mouth). Both Robo and David made the comment tonight "Looks like Code Geass", Robo said that while watching the first ep and David said that while watching the second ep (he might have also said it while we watched the first ep). I know they've got a good many Code Geassy things but I do hope they break away from that. Because I dislike shows that tries to be like other shows to the point where EVERYONE sees it.

Forgot how depressing the end of Desu Noto was, anyway I think I enjoyed that more second time round. Guess I'll be a grown up and watch Monster next.

Yeah, I actually heard the news. Not pleased as it likely means that the dub cast won't return and the volumes will be grossly overpriced. However, I likely wouldn't be purchasing P4A anyway as, in my opinion, it's a very, very bad and lazy adaptation. I'm going to give it a couple of more episodes, but if it doesn't impress me soon, I'm just sticking with the game.

The bigger news is Aniplex's Madoka Magica pricing. THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS if you want the LEs. They're also breaking a twelve-episode series into three volumes. Is this 2003 again?

Ben-To is the only show this season that shows the moment when a DOG becomes a WOLF. Until Guilty Crown can do the same, it doesn't stand a chance.

Really, I'm not seeing the Code Geass parallels in Guilty Crown beyond an external military force using mechas to take over Japan. On this point, it has about as much in common with Rideback as it does Code Geass, and just TRY to compare those two series, hah. When it comes to parallels, it's possible to match any show up with any other show on some level through enough tortured logic. You could say that GC is like Gundam SEED because they both have a popstar in the leadership of a military resistance force, say that it's like Revolutionary Girl Utena because they both involve pulling a sword out of a woman, or even compare it to Evangelion because the main character is still attending high school while the rest of Japan pretty much dies around him.

Basically, I'm not ready to color my expectations for the show based on a few parallels because there's virtually no chance it reaches the glorious trainwreck heights that Geass did and I might be setting myself up for disappointment when I would have otherwise enjoyed it on its own terms. I wasn't super-excited by the first episode, but it has two whole seasons to prove itself.

Even if you're paying MSRP, it's still a far better deal than what you can get in Japan, especially considering that the LEs are Blu-ray/DVD combos packaged with a ton of goodies. Also, preorder at Right Stuf, and you can get it down to just US$75 for each LE volume. It's still pretty damn backwards of Aniplex to apply Japanese-style marketing to North America, though.

that's still like £140 which is far too much for a cartoon series. Considering the fact that I picked up the far superior Stand Alone Complex and Second Gig for £15, Madoka will not be on my buy list for a long while. Saying that I did spent £60 (around $100) to import Koi Kaze, I guess if you love the show it's worth it.

Actually, I'm getting $120 if you don't buy the limited edition. $90 on right stuf. +$30 if blu-ray.
$225 for Limited Edition off right stuf. It's like if you bought the Haruhi special editions for each one, $60 x 4 LEs = $240. It's about the same, plus you're getting a bunch of extra stuff, which you may or may not be able to do without.

From the looks of it, it's pretty close to how the LEs in Japan were set up, so it's actually kinda nice. The pricing is about the same as Japan without having to worry about shipping prices, which are horrendous these days. Plus it's compressed down into 3 volumes instead of 6, so you're essentially cutting the price in half. And how Madoka is big enough that they could do this.

I recommend Cihayafuru as well. So far, I'm become more intrigue to see the next episode.
Is Ben-To really that good? what make it that good actually?

It's mostly the premise and blowing things out of proportion, really. Turning "getting dinner at half-price off" into a battle is pretty amusing. I would recommend at least watching the first episode or two.

The reason why I compare it to Code Geass is... Shu's new power is called "The King's Power" or "The Power of the King". And what was Lelouch's power called? "The Power of the King". They both get it from some strange girl that they might have met before. They're both live in a war torn type setting. You have the military using mechas. Both are part of a resistance (I know Shu didn't "join" yet but he will). In both you have the main pilot of the resistance in this nice red plugsuit. And so on.

I'm not saying it's not like other shows. But the first thing that came to mind was Code Geass. And lots of people are also getting that feeling.

I was calling it the new geass before it came out because I knew people would be calling it the best thing since sliced bread after a single episode.
