Japanese or English names?

Some people prefer to use the Pokemon's original compared to it's "dubbed".

Which one do you prefer or use?

English, though I maybe saying Japanese one day, as I have yet to learn Japanese.

it really depends. Well if you know how to speak japanese (i don't) then, you have a higher chance of being able to compare the original to the dubbed names. So because i don't know how to speak japanese, i prefer the english ones

I don't really like one over the other. I use the appropriate name given the situation. For example, if people are discussing the latest episodes of the anime, then I use the Japanese names, because they would most likely be using them too. Everywhere else, I use the localized names. So people know what I'm talking about and so I don't look like I'm a pretentious hipster weeaboo who hates everything not Japanese.

Generations 1-3 English names (I did not watch anything in Japanese so I couldn't understand how Japanese is beautiful =)
Generation 4 - English and Japanese (it means I write those I know in Japanese and the rest in English)
Generation 5 - Japanese all the way, I'm starting to hate gen 5 English names...

I prefer to use the ones I'm used to, which means English for everything up to BW and Japanese for these new ones since they haven't had English names for very long. There are a couple of names I like in Japanese more since they're more fun, like Mojumbo.

I'm not Japanese, nor can I read Japanese or played a Japanese Pokémon game. Using Japanese names in my case would just be tedious and prone to causing unnecessary confusion.

I honestly only know a few Japanese names and most of them are super....complicated, but I truly liked Emolga's Jap name, Emonga. Like I can just picture it screaming its name as it jumped out of a tree or something, kinda like "Geronimo!"...except "Emonga!"

This, pretty much. I use what I'm given. I don't play the Japanese games, watch the Japanese anime (well, not very often) or do anything like that. Pokémon's been with me ever since I was six years old and I got Pokémon Red. Same story with the anime so the English names have always grown on me.

To be honest, I don't see what's to hate about a name but I suppose I can only speak for myself. I nickname all of my Pokémon anyway so names never really bothered me. Since I only speak one language, I can't really make a fair comparison. More than likely, that's how it's going to stay.

This. I prefer the English names for the most part. At times I use the Japanese name as the nickname if I can't devise a good nickname for the Pokemon. For example, Beautifly getting nicknamed Agehunt.

With Generations 1-4, I prefer the English names. Regarding Garchomp, though, I'm torn between referring to it as Garchomp or Gablias, because both names sound very cool and evoke the trait of viciousness. Pertaining to Generation 5, however, some English names are cool, but a lot of the Japanese names seem well constructed, to the point where I'm going to be using a lot of Japanese Generation 5 names as nicknames. Encountering the Generation 5 Pokemon's Japanese names before the English ones didn't help things...

I'm not familiar with the japanese names except for the Isshu ones, I am more familiar with the english names.

English names. Since I don't know any Japanese, nor do I have any interest in learning the language, the Japanese names really mean nothing to me.

The English names are still mostly foreign to me.

I always use the English names when referring to Pokemon. The only time I ever use the Japanese names is during that in between period when new Pokemon have just come out and their English names haven't been released yet or I don't know them well enough yet. I rarely even remember the Japanese names after the English names come out anyways. I've already forgotten a few for the V generation.

English, unless the Pokemon doesn't have an English name yet. I hate it when people irl around here use the Japanese name when there's a perfectly good English name... I live in America so it just comes off as stupid.

English names, as I never familiarize myself with the Japanese ones. I usually wait until the Pokemon have their English names released to really look into them anyway.
