Appearance: Standing at a height of 5' 9", an unruly black mop sits atop Kiyos head. Rarely can he be bothered to style it, though he does venture out for a trim once it starts to reach down towards his grey eyes. Dark cycles are usually formed under them from long, lonely nights of gaming in his room; his sleep schedule follows no pattern other than passing out from exhaustion at his desk from playing for too long. Days seem to pass him by while hes alone, entering an unbreakable cycle of eating, sleeping, and staring as his desktops screen before emerging from his room. Only during these quick lapses is he brought back to reality. His family always welcomes him with open arms when he does decide to emerge from his room. This is typically when theyd ask him to run some sort of inconsequential errand such as a quick stop by the store or to deliver something to their neighbors. As kind-hearted as Kiyo is, he always succumbs to their wishes.
Despite being a sloth, Kiyo has at least a small tinge of pride. Before leaving, hed change into a clean pair of clothes and if hes feeling up to it, he might even shave the patchy scruff that sprouts from his face. Unsurprisingly, his wardrobe consists of rather basic apparel. Solid colors and fitted jeans are his go to. If you couldnt tell, hes the type to dress for comfort, not attention.
History: Its a slippery slope to drop from a normal everyday life to a full-time hermit, one that Kiyo glady plunged headfirst into. From skipping a day or so to stay home from school, to missing entire weeks, hiding away in his room offered him the comfort and solace no other environment could. Food, water, no public bathrooms,entertainment, and a cozy bed: what more could someone ask for? The stress of school and societal pressure was eventually too much for Kiyo. He'd become a hermit before even realizing it. At first, the loneliness consumed him, now its his best friend.
From a young age, Kiyo never really clicked with his classmates. Most of his time at home was spent pestering his pet Glameow. Seeing how he was lonely most of the time, he tried his best to teach her how to speak like a human… to no avail of course. Despite being the quiet type, he was eager to make friends at school. Unfortunately, his dark circles and messy hair was rather off-putting for his youthful peers. Through trial and effort, he was able to garner a small group of acquaintances and was desperate to keep them around. Thats when he decided to invite them over and let them in on a treat.
Rounding up his peers, Kiyo marched them over to his house where his mother was ecstatic her son had finally made some friends. After meeting the new faces, she happily skipped to the kitchen to make snacks for the children. Everyone was getting along fine. After a few minutes of playing, Kiyo decided it was now or never. He called over his familys pet which shocked his mother, causing her to accidentally drop a plate. She rushed over towards the living room, stepping over the broken glass, pleading for Kiyo to change the subject. But the boy was dead-set on astounding his friends. "Glameow," he called out as the Catty Pokemon strutted towards him. "Dont you want me to impress my friends?" The grey cat looked up, puzzled at the child. The room was silent as the other children waited for something to happen. Sighing, he said "Do what weve been practicing, Glameow. Talk!"
Silence.
Once a few seconds had passed, Kiyos peers began to burst into laughter. "Oh, Kiyo! Such imagination you have," his mother explained. She tried to placate the small crowd, but it only fanned their fire. "You know Pokemon cant talk…" she said, almost stumbling on her words. She saw tears begin to well in Kiyos eyes, and knew she had to act quick. She sent his "friends" on their way home, offering them to come over anytime. They never did.
This was just the beginning of Kiyos antics. As he grew older, his awkward personality traits only heightened. He found it hard to talk to anyone after being so humiliated at a young age. It was easier to keep to himself. While he gave up on teaching Glameow to talk, she was still his only friend and would converse with her as two human friends would. Sometimes at night, the two would sneak out towards the beach. Kiyo found the Poliwags to be particularly playful.
While Kiyo enjoyed the company of Pokemon more than humans, he began spending more and more of his time indoors. Eventually he even stopped talking with Glameow. It wasnt until sometime in his late teens when he instinctively called out to Glameow in triumph for winning something in one of his games did he realize Glameow had already evolved and he hadnt even noticed. 'How long has it been…?' 'What have i done with my life…..?' Anxiety and fear had filled Kiyo and the realizations had finally come rushing in. He had selfishly pushed away his only friend, replacing her with his computer. It was a hard pill to swallow, but Kiyo was ready for change.
Slowly, he began to leave his house for various reasons. The first was to cut his hair, which had grown rather long after years of no maintenance. He would also frequent the store for his parents occasionally. His mother had seen a change in Kiyo and began testing him, pushing him little by little to venture farther within the city. Her last mission for Kiyo? A simple delivery to be made for her friend in Veridian City. A simple task, right? They were all too oblivious to the journey Kiyo was about to step foot on.
Goals/Interests/Dreams: Be able to leave his room for days, perhaps even weeks at a time. His dream is to make at least one human friend.
Strengths: can run fast when hes frightened. Good at video games.
Weaknesses: gets nervous easily. Bad decision making skills. Not so good at everything else.
Quirks: Still secretly believes pokemon can talk.
