Suggestion: Larger avatars for regular members

With all the updates and expansions for avatar limits first among staff and then among supporters, I noticed that regular members are the only group that haven't had any changes or expansions. With Gold/Crystal having 180x180 limits, Platinum having 200x200, and Silver having the old 150x150, it seems disproportionate for members to still have 130x130. With the old green system the first two tiers (now merged into Silver) had the same as regulars, and I thought it'd be nice if non-supporters had the same as them (150x150) since ATM they're the only one with those limits. It was just a thought of mine that seemed to have more of a balance than how it is now :p

People donate for the perks, your suggestion takes one of those perks away?

Big avatars aren't a necessity, which is why they are added extras as you go up the donation scale. IMO this would be a pointless idea and change, and would annoy those who had already donated to unlock this for themselves.

No, what I'm suggesting is that the avatar limits of silver-tier supporters (which already isn't much to begin with given the limits of most other groups) be expanded to members as 130x130 is quite small IMO and the old first and second tiers used to share limits with non-supporters anyway. It'd be more of a balance than it is now, too. :P

I'd rather not essentially remove one of the silver tier perks.

I want big avatar too. And if our avatar can go up to 150x150 will be great.

While it may seem tempting to do what was the case with the previous supporter system, I sorta agree with the two staff members who already posted. Having bigger avatars as a donation perk can be a way to help encourage people to donate, especially when you consider the perks supporters get are sort of a "thank you" gift for donating.

I remember when the system was still in its previous form and even though I had 150x150 avatars but now my maximum size is 180x180 which is quite a jump to me. I don't mind having bigger avatars now, in fact I had only been a regular member for 18 months which felt pretty short to me considering I got supportered over a year after I initially joined.

But yeah, I guess leaving the regular members to have the small 130x130 would be the best choice so yeah let's keep it that way. Especially when you also consider that the maximum size for your profile picture also increases the higher your supporter level is, in fact Crystals (previously Tier 5) had 450x450 but ours is now 800x800 which is a massive jump. In fact under the old system only staff members could have such huge pics back then. Same with the customized usertitles which I also previously wasn't able to use.

So I think we should leave it the way it is now. Removing a perk would be kinda pointless. As Magic said in his post, big avatars aren't much of a necessity so that's why the size increases the higher your supporter level is.

I wish we could put 130x130 as max for every tier/rank! :D I'm one of the people who enable automatic downsizing of huge avatars because I think anything larger than 130 (or, well, 150 is what it's sized down to I believe?) is annoying and some larger ones even break postbits. Basically, even more people with even larger avatars would not make everybody happy, jsyk. Then again, I happen to be a staff member with huge limits who chooses to only use small avatars, so until I'm fired I'm not sure my opinion count for much? o.o

Silver is already blog level right? I don't think it would kill them to "lose" a perk because the blog perk is a big deal. Besides, the people donating for avatar size would probably pick the higher size in a higher tier anyway.

I think the point is that Supporter 1 and 2 already shared 130x130 avatars with non-supporters before so non-supporters having 150x150 like Silver tier is equitable with the old set-up. I'd be inclined to agree with Alex and Oryx that in essence it isn't losing a perk, plus Silver does have blog permissions as well as other things to keep it semi-exclusive anyway.

Well, those Silvers who were previously Tier 2 did lose their blogging permissions when the new system came into effect (blogs now start at the Gold level) but if they did have a blog prior to the change they could contact an admin to be placed in a separate bloggers usergroup and that would still allow them to post blog entries. And they can still use a blog if they reach the minimum 2,000 postcount limit.

Trust me, I really want a bigger profile picture. But like alot of other people, I believe it's a way to get people to pay. Heck, I fell for the gimmick. I'm most likely going to donate soon for the perks.
