    [PokeCommunity.com] Let's talk about Lillie....

So we have a thread discussing Hau, so why not bring back Lillie into the topics here?

In case you're unfamiliar with Lillie, she is serving as an assistant to Professor Kukui and has a love for reading books. There is a lot of mystery surrounding the character, which makes her often featured in a lot of theories regarding Sun & Moon. According to the official website, she is said to have an important role in the game.

So, what are your thoughts on Lillie? What do you think her secret may be? And how do you think she'll come into play during the story?

Well, I can't say much about Lillie. We know she's mysterious, but how much important will she be? We can see some connection with Lusamine and maybe Gladion, but what drives me confused is the similarity between her and UB-01. I honestly don't think she is the UB, but besides that, I can't think of anything that might make her "mysterious". She might know about Aether Foundation's true intentions, but does that count as "mysterious"? And I'm curious about what she has in that bag...

I'm also mad curious about what she has in her bag. I feel like whateve it is has some crucial connection to the plot, somehow. .-.

Do you think it might be a Zygarde Core? But then.... I can't see Zygarde being in the main plot, since Sina and Dexio give us a Zygarde cube for us to collect the cells, which sounds more like a " secondary mission", not related to the main plot! I saw someone here on PC saying that she might be hiding UB-01, since it can change shape whenever it wants. But then again, we see it coming from another dimension in the Japanese Trailer so....

I'm also mad curious about what she has in her bag. I feel like whateve it is has some crucial connection to the plot, somehow. .-.

I am very curious about that, like you said. I have heard of the theories going around that it could be a Zygarde core, but I guess it's just something I'd rather wait to find out what the mysterious sound in her bag is.

That then raises the question of what kind of connection that Lillie has with Zygarde?

Possible, but is it really just an everyday Pokemon, or something more? Now that you bring this up, it can very well be possible that we're all just overthinking this and it might not be anything special.

The only reason I'm hesitant to believe that it's a Zygarde core is that I'm not sure what kind of connection Lillie would have with Zygarde. I feel we should be pretty cautious on how we connect the dots on our theories here; if Lillie has any relations to UB-01, and Lillie has a Zygarde core in her bag, then that raises the question of what kind of connection(s) (if any) that the Ultra Beasts have with Zygarde, which is diving quite a bit deep into things.

Hoping here that Zygrade will have a major role in the plot

    basically UB-01 in disguise.

Nah, I do think there's more depth to this character than they're letting on. I wouldn't be surprised if she has mad connections to the Aether Foundation contrary to her innocent appearance. I'm already thinking the Aether Corp. are the bad guys, so I'm half expecting her to be an ex-member who disbanded upon discovering their true intentions.

I remember when I first saw Lillie I thought she would be the main rival. After that was deconfirmed, I wasn't sure what to think about her... But now I think it's quite clear she's connected to Aether and the UBs.

Obviously, she has some sort of connection to UB-01, but I don't think she is actually it, as the main site mentions they don't really have emotions, but Lillie seems to have them. Going by the theory that Aether is creating the UBs, I think 01 was made using some of her DNA. She probably had no idea as to what it'd be used for at time, and when she found it was for UB-01, she probably took it, being what's in her bag, and then left Aether (it'd explain why she isn't there during the scene when UB-01 appears). Listening to the cry from her bag again, it actually does sound just a bit like UB-01, but shorter and more muffled.

Oh yeah, and she's probably related to Lusamine and Gladion, but that's all there is really is to that.

What I can't really figure out about her, however, is:

    A. Her love for books (may just be a little extra detail, but I can't help but feel it'll play a big role later)

    And

    B. Why she doesn't like battling, and more specifically doesn't like seeing Pokémon getting hurt (though it could have to do with potiential experiments Aether performed on them that caused this).

Would be a straightforward and simple approach to just go with the probability that Lusamine and Faba are her parents, and that Gladion is her sibling who we have to knock some sense into.

Seems much more like Game Freak's storytelling style without going into anything too deep, but I can be wrong on that.
Woaj, I just noticed that Faba does have green eyes and blonde hair as well... He looks a little old, tho, and if he was Lusamine's husband I feel like we would've known, so he could be a grandfather or something.

Yeah, I was slightly hesitant and not 100% sure on Faba being her dad, but she has to have a father or some sort of father figure, right?

Unless she suffers from Missing Dad Syndrome, much like the player does /shrug

In that case Lusamine and Gladion would just be her only known relatives.

I didn't notice Faba also had that blonde hair/green eyes connection. We all know the connection she has with Lusamine and Gladion, sharing the same hair and eyes, but I guess Faba seemed to have slipped under the radar for me. I think Faba could be her dad, unless if Game Freak is somehow obsessed with Missing Dad Syndrome like they always do to the protagonists.

I wonder when we're gonna have a main female rival hehe

Technically, it was the Hoenn games where we had our first main female rival in May (though that's only the case for male players). If you don't count opposite-gendered protagonists, the role definitely goes to Bianca in B/W.

Think it's likely that Gladion takes the remaining starter? He's part of Team Skull but that doesn't stop him from being your traditional rival. We saw how he had two Pokemon which we only saw one of them (Type: Null). Just a theory!

Seems like Hau is going to be our main and only rival, though. I honestly think that if we were going to have any other rival, they would've been revealed along with Hau, wouldn't they?

Yes, if we had a second rival they could have been revealed alongside Hau. I remember Cheren and Bianca were revealed alongside each other, as well as the Kalos Group (Tierno, Trevor, Shauna and Calem/Serena). I was also once hoping Lillie would be our second rival as well, until it was found out she doesn't like battling.

Interesting stuff to note is that this will be the first time we'll have just one rival since D/P/Pt, not counting remakes. Sun & Moon are also the first main series games with one rival where the rival never takes the starter with the type advantage against you.

I don't want to dismiss this idea just yet but I wonder how they would explain that in-game; just recently getting the final starter but also having Type: Null on hand... It seems kind of weird.

I dunno. I'm really not comfortable with the idea that whatever starter that's left just... sits there, y'know? I feel that sometimes has to obtain it and battle you with it. Would it be Gladion? Seems unlikely, unless he breaks into the Professor's lab and steal the remaining Pokemon, which... now thinking about, sounds more plausible.

I do imagine he's not above stealing it, but at the same time, unless he steals it very early on, it would be weird for him to have this Lv. 5 starter and then Type: Null, which I can't imagine we'd fight so early. He's also already Team Skull's Enforcer as far as we know. I just have a hard time imagining he started being a Trainer at the same time as the player...

Maybe the final starter won't be taken by Gladion, nor Lillie, but Kukui? Professor by day, rival by night!

Gladion stealing the final starter wouldn't be totally out of the question. Team Skull are said to steal other people's Pokemon, so with him being the enforcer for those guys it would be a good opportunity for the remaining starter to be used rather than just being left behind?

I guess if he stole Type: Null too that would work. But then I'd be curious as to why he was Team Skull's Enforcer before really having any Pokémon. Unless being Enforcer had nothing to do with being a Trainer before Gladion stole the starter and Type: Null?

I dunno the timeline of events is just making it hard for me to imagine how this could happen, oops.

Picture this: Gladion originally wasn't a member of Team Skull. Assuming he's related to Lillie and Lusamine, he was kind of a decent guy. Something occured that drove him, for lack of a way to put it, to the dark side, and that's what he dedicated his life to stealing Pokemon. There is some event or another that drove him to oppose Lusamine and the Aether Foundation's goals, and his ultimate goal was to steal Type: Null. His first Pokemon in order to get there though, was the third remaining starter, so he steals that first in order to steal Type: Null.

That's about the best I can come up with, really. I get the slight vibe that he wasn't originally a member but joined voluntarily for some reason, does that make sense?

This I can get. I'm so used to the characters of Pokémon games not actively changing sides during the events of the game (the ones that do that I can remember change sides after their defeat in a decisive battle or such) that I was expecting Gladion to always be a part of Team Skull. So if he starts outside of it I can understand if he snatches the final starter. Pretty neat idea!
