    Libyan forces 'capture Muammar Gaddafi'

[PokeCommunity.com] Libyan forces capture & kill Muammar Gaddafi

The BBC's Caroline Hawley in Tripoli: "We've heard quite a lot of celebratory gunfire" (Still shoto shows NTC troops celebrating the capture of Sirte)

Commanders for Libya's transitional authorities say they have captured ousted leader Col Muammar Gaddafi.

The reports came after transitional forces claimed control of Sirte, Col Gaddafi's birthplace, following weeks of fierce fighting.

Col Gaddafi is said to be wounded. There is no independent confirmation of the reports.

The colonel was toppled in August after 42 years in power. The International Criminal Court is seeking his arrest.

"He's captured. He's wounded in both legs," National Transitional Council (NTC) official Abdel Majid told Reuters news agency.

"He's been taken away by ambulance."

AFP news agency quoted another NTC official, Mohamed Leith, as saying that Col Gaddafi had been captured in Sirte and was "seriously wounded" but still breathing.

A soldier who says he captured Muammar Gaddafi tod the BBC the colonel had shouted: "Don't shoot!"

The BBC's Caroline Hawley in Tripoli says although the capture is unconfirmed, ships and cars have been sounding their horns in the capital and guns are being fired in celebration.

Anyways I hope we don't have another gruesome and old fashioned Hussein-like hanging. :/

Finally! This is great news! One of my close friends has a Libyan heritage - in fact he was born there, although he only lived there for a month... and he has been telling me for the past year or so (maybe a bit less) about how he's worrying for his family, and how much he wanted Gadaffi to be overthrown and have revenge exacted upon him...

Like you, Netto Azure, said, I'm not too fond of a public hanging (on video!), in fact, I'm not too keen on the archaic death sentence at all. Nonetheless I am happy for all of Libya. :)

It's strange that right now, news are flipping between "he's captured and being hospitalized" and "he's dead" now.

Either way... I think Libya is probably a (slightly) better place now.

I hope this is actually real and not just a false news report. This is exactly what I'm talking about hahaha - there were so many articles about Gaddafi being killed or captured or whatever that it's hard to take them seriously. With that being said, it's been a while since Colonel Gaddafi has been featured so prominently in the news, so maybe this time it is real.

BBC, AlJazeera, CNN and the various US networks are attempting to confirm. So I guess we can at least say something big happened.

Bah. I'm staying a cynic. We have no reason to believe this should go smoothly ...

Although I've been listening to some BBC program called "World Have Your Say" which has been interviewing the NTC (National Transitional Council) Leaders and civilians. If the NTC Leaders really do take control and act as they say will, things might be alright.

    Random thoughts:

I really want to know what Hisham Matar has to say about this.

    and ...

It's really weird hearing citizens of other African countries (Uganda, etc., etc.) calling in and saying how great of a leader he was.

This news is so great that a local restaurant here is having discounts on food today. Not even joking, lol.

As soon as I turn on my TV and tune to CNN, I see this. The people of Libya can now finally see the light at the end of the long, dark tunnel that was Muammar Gadhafi.

People of Libya, I take my hat off to you all.

Well done Rebels! A battle you have won!

Libya is now a peaceful place to be now that you have triumphed over that wuss that was Gaddafi.

He may be gone, but some of his family still stand.

A new government means we get to see more of the red, black and green flag with the crescent moon to declare a new Libya.

And may my best Poke-buddy, Oshawott salute you with his scalchop!

I'm glad this didn't turn into another Iraq or Afghanistan. Thankfully, the people of Libya were the biggest force pushing to get rid of Gaddafi and Western powers merely backed them with some planes and bombs. Definitely worth the $2 billion the U.S. spent. Let's just cross our fingers and hope that they can rebuild their institutions in time for an election. And that it'll be a fair election.

My Reactions to Events in Libya
Gaddafi killed: Great! Now Libya will become a modern Democratic nation!
    Libya declares Islamic Law: ಠ_ಠ
