Lost save files/regret deleted save files?

What prompted me creating this thread was me updating Minecraft and discovering that all of my worlds over the past 3 years have been completely deleted. I dont care about any of them except for one that I have been working on for the past 2 years. Im really pissed right now.

Has anything this unfortunate occurred to you? Or have you done something similar to this intentionally and regretted it later? This applies to any game, really.

My first ever play thru of Pokemon (Pokemon Yellow) got its save corrupted after I reset the game after getting into the hall of fame... it was one of the most horrible experience I could remember as a child XD

Recently I lost my Magikarp Jump save by resetting my phone and not backing up the game. I was rank 63, so this kinda annoyed me. Otherwise the only save file I've really been upset to lose was my Colosseum save file which had all of my powerful and rare Pokemon from gen 3 and before. I also have a Pokemon Ranch save which had a ton of event legendaries on, but I couldn't get them off because my pearl save got corrupted.

Oh yes, multiple times. The one(s) that I can remember the most was Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals. After many gruelling hours of fighting a chain battle version of the end game boss (unlocked after defeating the main game and heading to where you defeated the final boss), I had defeated it and unlocked the final Geo in the game. Now, I should mention that the game has the most intuitive start menu ever. If you wanted to, say, start a New Game, all you had to do was scroll to the right and click A. Then it just deleted your old save and started a new file, no questions asked. That's what exactly my little sister did. So I bit the bullet and did it all again, this time even collecting most of the varieties of each Spectrobe (most of them have three different recolours). Now, this took me a long time, like I think I spent almost twice as much time on this new file than I did on my old one. Then my sister deletes the save file again... I never played the game the same way again.

I used B+Up+Select on my first Pok?mon Emerald save after reading about it in the manual, thinking I would be able to delete different save states (I wanted to redo my catching of Regirock - why I was reading the manual in the first place). Instead, I said okay to the deletion of my complete save, and all I could do was stare at the screen the moment I realized my mistake. It's still one of the things I regret most, because I had so many good Pok?mon on there. I had to replay the entire game. I still got good Pok?mon but it's a shame I don't know anything about my first playthrough anymore.

Put hours into Dragon Quest VIII (PS2), which is a lengthy game with a ton of grinding, years back only to have the save file become corrupted for some reason. -_- I was too dejected to ever that touch that game again.

Everyone from PC's own Minecraft servers can sympathize, we've lost a few worlds too, albeit none that were 3+ years old (I think?) :P

As a kid, one of the most soul crushing losses was my Harvest Moon save file - I still don't understand the mechanics of what happened, I just know back then it was a common practice to blow into your game cartridges if something wasn't right. Apparently that was actually a bad idea, and that was how I lost hours of farming, millions of gold and my wife Ellie :c

I put in many hours into Awakening, trying out min-maxing units for the DLC maps. One day when I traded my old 3DS for the new 3DS I realized that I haven't made a backup of my save, so all my progress was lost.
