CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY IT! I need a Switch, though.

First off, the game looks and play beautifully! From the first couple of worlds I visited, I've been blown away by just how alive everything feels. Moons have been easy to come by, but given that there's over 800, it's not really surprise. The capturing mechanic is definitely fun! Galaxy (1) is my favorite traditional Mario game so let's see if this one can surpass it.

I haven't played a Mario game since Sunshine, which I despised. I'm actually quite enjoying this...far more than I did Breath of the Wild, anyway. There is significantly more to do in the worlds than there was in BOTW and, whilst that is all it has going for it, right now that's enough. Will just have to see where it goes.

Controlling a T-Rex was just as fun as advertised too.

OH. One other thing. Motion controls. Why, Nintendo. I know they're not required, but they're unbearably pushy with them in this game, and Nintendo need to recognise that some people do not like their shitty motion controls and never have. That you DO need them for certain Moons is going to make getting everything in this game intolerable...

After feeling grumpy about Best Buy not getting around to shipping my preorder until last night, my game arrived this morning! I've been hoping for a more collectathon-esque 3D Mario game for quite a while now, so that makes this one of my most anticipated releases of the year. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to play it yet, and I won't be able to play it extensively this weekend, but I'm hoping to at least get a taste of it. My main concern is that I'll get hooked and won't get through everything else I need to get done...

My gaming backlog seems to be growing quickly. I already had a lot of things to play, and then I recently picked up a Switch (which I've had hardly any time to use), so now I have Super Mario Odyssey, BOTW, and MK8D on my backlog for that (ok, MK8D isn't really a backlog game in quite the same sense, particularly as I had the Wii U version, but still). There are still several games I'm interested in for the Switch, plus USUM, and a few other things I'm interested in. And I've still only played about 15 minutes of my SNES classic (mostly just testing that everything worked). At least I don't have to worry about running out of games to play any time soon!

Honestly, I think that this game entirely deserves the reviews it's getting and its rating as #1 of all time - for now, but that's likely to hold - on GameRankings. It's brilliant, and it's an amazing new spin on Super Mario 64 meets Super Mario 3D World. The character and creature design, the gorgeous level design, the new mechanics with Cappy - all really, really well-done.

I just finished - the plot, not a completionist run, of course - and I can't remember last time I played so much of a Mario game so fast, or enjoyed it so much. I really recommend this to anyone who still isn't sure about it.

Game of the Year? Easily. Best game of all time? Well, there's so many different genres, but we have at the very least a strong contender here.

So, for those of you playing - who is using the motion controls? How are you finding them? I'm painfully aware that I'll have to delve into them for 100% completion (why, Nintendo?) but I've been playing exclusively undocked so I'm curious as to other people's experiences.

I get the feeling I could have finished this by now if I hadn't of stopped everywhere to get every single regional coin. I like costumes >.>

They're not too bad if I have the joycons detatched already, but it's sooo much effort to take them off xP

Yeah, I tried using motion controls with Joycons attached out of curiosity when I got prompts for homing cap etc. and it was an absolute disaster. They feel very imprecise despite being fairly intuitive...it feels like to do things faster, you use motion controls, but to do things right the first time, you don't. xD

    I'm taking my time! Just made it to rainy New Donk City and man, each new kingdom looks better than the last! I have about 135 moons atm, and most of the available outfits (not sure which is my favorite). Finding all the purple coins is definitely a challenge, but having my ship decked makes it worth it. {XD}

It's very fun! I prioritized the story on my go, and I've finished it. Each kingdom is so beautiful and unique. All the different monsters you can control add so much variety to the game. My favourite kingdom is no doubt Metro Kingdom (New Donk City). I plan to go back and collect all the regional coins to buy the stuff in the shops, and maybe take a stab at collecting all the moons. There are so many of them lol.

I'm getting as many moons as I can, at least as many as the hints will point me towards xD I'm still in wooded kingdom but I have a ton of moons and coins.

I want this game but idk whether to buy it myself or wait until Christmas and get my parents to buy it for me...
But then I'll also want Ultra Moon for Christmas and idk if they'll buy me both xD

This is the first game I've played in a long time that I haven't been able to put down! I don't know what it is, but there's just something about this game that makes it so fun and enjoyable to collect stars and explore the worlds. I think I'm about 3/4ths of the way done, but I've just had to force myself to put it down to complete my assignments.

Finished the "main game" last week with 345 Moons to be exact. The final boss + sequence was actually pretty fun even if my 6 year old nephew spoiled it. {XD} And there's so much to do post-game with a ramped up difficulty. Visiting a certain kingdom after beating the game brought back a ton of nostalgia as someone who grew up with the N64.
