Most devastating Game-Over?

It could be due to having forgotten to save, or in an important boss fight.

For me this morning I received it in Pokemon Platinum after losing to Cyrus in the Distortion World. This run has been a disaster, since I lost twice to the second gym leader, then lost again later to my rival. But the loss to Cyrus hurt in particular because it felt more important. When it comes to gyms and rival battles, you could think well it makes sense to just keep going and try again. Going into this, I had a feeling I wasn't winning. My team was vastly underleveled, and I had only 5 of my team members and a Rampardos I ditched but put back in my team for Rock Climb. As I thought would happen, I didn't win. Losing a fight with a villain to me has always stung, because well...even if I win a rematch I still was ultimately defeated by the villain. In the story-line my character would probably be dead. The game spawning me all the way back in town outside of the distortion world with no dialogue just made that feeling stronger. I'm thinking about restarting and actually planning my team since I actually have prior knowledge this time. Or I'll just scrap through the fight and catch Dialga and Palkia/Giritina to speed through the rest of the game with. My current team has not preformed well at all, and I don't feel like grinding. Also it would make for something different since the majority of the time I refrain from using legendary Pokemon. It could be fun for once. Also maybe it wasn't a good idea trying to play this entire thing on Set.

It doesn't have to be Pokemon. It's only my example, since that entire game over made me question continuing.

This happeneddd to me while I playeddd Pokémon Shuffle. When I gathereddd all of the strongest legendary Pokémon including Lucario with the Mega Stone facing Silvally. I even gathered +5 Moves, Disruption Delay, everything. Lost to Silvally twice in a row and only knockeddd about 2/3rths of its HP.

I can honestly share that Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3, Nioh and Cuphead have driven me mad at times.
With Pokémon I rarely die and save a lot so nothing that I can recall. Except for when I was quite young and finally caught
a Scyther in the Safari Zone only to run out of battery. Oh boy, what a sad Sunday morning that was..

    CAVE. STORY.

The game that made me more skeptic on whether to buy a game or not. (Well, not just because I'm supporting Nicalis.) Losing way too many times in the Blood Stained Sanctuary left me with a feeling of despair that I would never be able to finish the game.

Of course, there's Easy Mode, but I don't know if I'll ever be able to motivate myself to play through the first few hours of the game a fourth time.

Oh god, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance gave me plenty of headaches just from Ike dying at just the last leg of the journey. I also reset whenever someone dies, and someone almost always dies in the more difficult chapters. That game was an experience, for sure. Some chapters took so long just because I kept resetting.
