There was a thread discussing this sometime back but what the hell I think I'll make another one. The discussion is the same. Now here's a small preface.

Pokémon are unique, special etc. Each Pokémon can be remembered for a reason, thus making about all of them memorable. Or is that true? We all remember Pikachu as the mascot, Arceus as the god, Magikarp as the derp. Some people remember Pokémon like Smeargle because of their gimmick capacity. Some remember Pokémon because of their stylish design. Some remember Pokémon because of their competitive use. But in all these lists there are Pokémon that borderline between less useful and mediocre that people never use, they simply forget.

Now I ask you to go through the list of Pokémon in the Pokédex and see the ones which you couldn't have remembered in a jiffy. Which are the ones that made you blink for a while?

For me, a lot of the Fish Pokemon are kind of forgettable, i.e. Finneon, Barboach, Remoraid. Not sure if it's because you have to fish to encounter them (which I don't often do), but I just don't see much of these guys and forget about them.

For me it was Drifloon. I just forgot about it. I don't play Gen IV anymore so it's a easily forgettable for me.

Well, let me just flip through my handy dandy pokedex that I keep handy for such emergencies...

    Here's a few:
Sunflora - It's even a grass type, but I always forget it exists.
Stantler - I don't know, just never remember this one either.
Kricketune - Something tells me I want to forget this one...

That's pretty much it. I don't know whether I should be proud or disturbed that the list is so small...

    Octillery
    Stantler
    Finneon - Lumineon
    Smeargle

I always seem to forget that those exist

I have a tendency to forget about all the Pokémon who don't evolve, such as Girafarig, Dunsparce, Corsola, Volbeat, Illumise, Kecleon, etc. etc. If I don't think of them hard enough, then I would rarely get reminded of them. The only two non-evolving Pokémon that I haven't forgotten about are Milktank and Emolga. Milktank—it's played a major role in the games. It was Whitney's go-to Pokémon, and provided you with quite a tough challenge. When I played Pokémon Silver for the first time, it's taken me about seven to eight tries to have it finally defeated. xD" As for Emolga, well, it made a bunch of appearances in the anime. It was one of Iris' most-trusted Pokémon partners; she had used it in almost all her battles. Oh, and Skarmory—it's just impossible for me to forget about that Pokémon. It's got an awesome-looking design, and thanks to its superior defensive stats, it could endure a variety of attacks and stall your opponent for hundreds of turns.

Along with the ones I've already mentioned, I also find Pokémon like Exploud, Shiftry, and Camerupt to be pretty forgettable. They haven't made much appearances in the anime, and can rarely be found in the games unless you look for them hard enough. D:

For some reason, it's always the second gen Pokemon that do this to me, where I won't necessarily forget them, but I'll be looking through the Pokedex or something and go, "Oh right, that's a thing." For the longest time (about 2 or 3 years I guess?) I completely forgot that Sunflora existed, to the point where I was genuinely shocked to find a trainer with one in White 2.

After just skimming through the National Dex right now, this happened to me with Chinchou, Forretress, Qwilfish and Remoraid. Again, I didn't forget them completely, but each of them threw me off a bit.

I'm going to add to the list of forgetful Water types and choose Clamperl. I was watching a Pokémon anime episode yesterday that featured Clamperl and I thought, "Oh, I forgot Clamperl even existed." Strange that I forgot about a Pokémon with a unique evolution method(s). I probably think more of Gorebyss and Huntail while disregarding Clamperl.

Another Pokémon that I completely forgot about is Mothim. Like, has anyone even seen any of them? I think there is one Trainer in D/P/Pt that has one, but that's about it. Mothim looks nothing like Burmy, so it's easy to forget that Burmy can evolve into it.

I'll break it down by region.

    Kanto
    Exeggute and Exeggutor
It's very hard to forget any of the original 151 Pokémon, but if there were any that I sometimes forgot existed it would be these two.

    Johto

    Girafarig and Qwilfish
Like the Pokémon from Kanto I find it hard to forget any of the Pokémon from Johto, especially because I praise this generation with having some of the best designs overall. However, I almost never remember Girafarig and Qwilfish sometimes. When I do, I always remember how much I think the two of them should have an evolution or at least a pre-evolution for Girafarig.

    Hoenn
    Barboach and Whiscash
Oh wow! I can remember every Pokémon from Hoenn, but going through the list I totally forgot that these two even existed, much less that Barboach actually evolves into Whiscash.

    Sinnoh

    Wormadam
Who? I forgot Burmy evolves into something else if it's female. They look so similar to be honest, except the female is wider.

    Unova

Munna, Musharna, Tympole, Basculin and Alomomola
Maybe it's because I try to forget about this generation a lot that I don't remember some of its Pokémon. I remember Tympole's evolutions more than I remember Tympole itself, and whenever I see an Alomomola I always think of Luvdisc, the original heart of the sea. Actually, I still can't remember the name of some of the Pokémon from this generation. Unova had a lot of Pokémon with weird names which makes it harder to remember the Pokémon itself. D:

    Kalos
    Bergmite
Everything is still so new, but sometimes I forget that Bergmite is actually a thing and it evolves.

I actually used to forget about Kangaskhan until this Mega form came. That pokémon just never really appealed to me and I never used it and didn't hear many others talk about it, so it faded in my mind I guess. Plus it didn't have any exceptional typing or anything that made it stick out with attacks. Cosmic punch though, or something?

I've also sometimes forgot about Porygon! It is such a different pokémon and I never saw it in the anime (banned episode, remember?) so I don't know much about it and sort of forget it sometimes.

Also Kabuto and Kabutops just because there are other pokémon that are similar to Kabutops in ways so I tend to not really think about that one.

In gen II I guess maybe Quilfish... But still not really. I never really see or talk about it, but I always remember that it's a pokémon and what type it has and remember when I've met it in the Johto games and such.

In Hoenn I don't think I'm really forgetting about any pokémon, because I've played those games so much and almost used every pokémon in them... Oh waaait, but of course: Huntail and Gorebyss, I never caught or saw or used them and I actually don't see them as pokémon even because honestly, I know nothing about them.

For Sinnoh, I guess Gastrodon. What is that even O.o Also Spiritomb, even though I've seen and heard of it many times. Becuase it is so different from most pokémon in every way kind of. Finneon and Lumineon, I never really think about. They are some random fish, even though they are quite pretty.

For Unova, Durant definitely. It too seems a bit weird for a pokémon and I know next to nothing about it so I don't really remember it. And lastly, I can't say anything about Kalos yet because I don't even remember half of the new pokémon so far.

There are quite a few that I tend to forget about from time to time. Like others have said, it is much easier to forget Pokemon that don't evolve because they just don't seem to stand out as much. Also I agree with the statement that fish Pokemon are sometimes easy to forget because of how many fish Pokemon there are. It's impossible to remember every single one of them.

As for Pokemon that I tend to forget, I can never seem to remember Cleffa and Igglybuff. These were 2 baby Pokemon that were introduced way back in the old GSC days and really only appeared once in the game. I never bothered breeding for them so I just forgot about them over time. I also tend to forget about Mantine from time to time despite using one on my first GSC team.

As a competitive battler, I always tend to forget the NFE Pokemon. So those such as Nidorina, Skiploom, Carvanha, Prinplup and Eelektrik are my choices. I also think Bergmite is forgettable thanks to its mono-Ice typing.

Lumineon and Finneon are the two pokemon that I always seem to forget, which is ironic considering I managed to remember them specifically to answer this question. Hmm...

    Also Relicanth.

Feebas/Munna/Skiploom - If someone show me picture of them and no name it I do not know what to say,I just say a.... pokemon?

A few years back, 2010 I'd say, I was looking through the Hoenn des for a water Pokemon. I thought Relicanth and Feebus were the same Pokemon, and I didn't know Huntail evolved from Clampearl. There were a lot of forgettable water Pokemon in Generation 3.

I also had forgotten Spiritomb until I rebattled Cynthia!

Anyhow. If I was shown a picture of any Pokemon, I could name it. But in the past, there were plenty that I just forgot existed due to insignificance.

    Swalot.

Honorable mention to Huntail and Gorebyss for being the worst split evolutions.
