Multiple Save Files

So, what if Pokemon had multiple save files? What would you do? Should Gamefreak do it? Would you use it?

Yes. I would absolutely love if Pokemon started using multiple save files. It's a pain with that single save file, and I can't stand it when a game only has a single save file and the only way to play the game again is to start and you'll have to erase your current one which you don't want to because you put hours of work to get something that you know you won't be able to get back. And with Pokemon, I believe this a problem since you can put a lot of work into a single file and be wanting to go through the story again, but you won't be able to because you'll lose everything and you'll be forced to purchase the 2nd version and possibly another system (Or PokeBank if all you don't want to lose is your Pokemon.). You could watch it on YT, but it is just not the same especially if you want to do a challenge or do something specific to make your experience different. In the future, I hope GF will do this, at least a 2nd save file and at most 3 separate save files.

Yes! I would love to have multiple save files! As it is, I usually get pretty attached to a certain save, I've put a lot of work into it after all. I wouldn't to just go about deleting it just so I can play through the story again. Multiple save files would be an easy way to solve that problem. At the very least a second file would be nice.

It would be nice to have more than 1 save; testing different team, replaying the story and doing challenges as well to have one save per person that shared the gaming device with.

Yes, this really needs to happen. I am so sick and tired of having to start over a game completely just to play through it again. I have to transfer all the Pokemon from the game I want to start over to another game so I don't lose them which can be tedious. I think this may happen soon, hopefully.

It's so horrendous that even after 6 generations of games we still have only one save file per game. It's been so annoying particularly if someone wants to play but you don't want them messing up, or if you're like me and had a few games suffer corruption that makes them completely unplayable. I feel like there has to be some weird excuse behind the single save file thing.

Another topic is: that it would be easy cloning Pokemon with multiple save files. What do you think?

Well I wish I could think of the proper reason to try to guess as to why there aren't multiple save files at this point, and I seem to remember someone mentioning one here, but I can't recall where. But I feel like there would be problems present if they did, although it would at least make B2W2's Challenge Mode/Sealed Chamber Key requirements look like less of a money grab (being brutally honest saying that, but yeah).

It would totally be good to have at least one extra save file. That way you can keep your main play through safe but be able to replay it for memories or challenges. I'd like to replay several games but don't have the money to buy multiple cartridges as I'm sure most people don't!

I suppose it can be good having two saves. The players can reserve one save slot as permanent profile while the another for replay purposes? But I'm fine and very satisfied with what we have now, I'm not against if they introduce this feature sometime in the future.

I have wanted this so badly for so long it drives me crazy. I guess one of the reasons against it was to prevent people from getting rarer, or more limited Pokemon, numerous times and have an advantage... but now that PokeBank is a thing that's not really a concern anymore. Maybe it's a way to get people to buy more copies? If that's the case that's just kind of greedy.

Either way, I can't think of a logical reason to NOT have multiple save files. It'd make me love the series just that much more.

It would certainly be appreciated, because not many people are willing to just give up all their progress. It's all about money, each game goes with one save. Need another file? Buy another game, easy as that. Pokébank has certainly helped, but it's not free either, so that's another profit source in the end.

I'm not really sure if multiple save files would be a good thing. It's one of the magical/crucial features in the Pokémon games, it would influence the gameplay in a few ways... Like choosing your starter, Nintendo has intended that most of the times you can only have one of the 3 starting Pokémon, if you would be able to use multiple save files you could just have 3 with each time a different starter Pokémon. People who use flashcards have the advantage, cause they can use multiple saves/backup old ones.

Before PokeBank came out I really hated that there was only one save file on the game. Sometimes I would want to restart a game but I wouldn't because I wanted to keep all my Pokemon and items. PokeBank has made it easier to start a new file, now I can restart a file without having to sacrifice Pokemon.

One downside I see--that is, for Nintendo, as they don't seem to fully endorse these kind of stuff--with having multiple save files is us being able to get a hold of all starter Pokémon by our own selves (in the past, we were required to have two handheld systems for this, but not that Bank exists, this is no longer the case). Even without access to multiple saves, some of us still find ourselves doing it by erasing our old file and creating a new one, but things would become much, much more easy in this regard if this feature did make it into the games.
