My Hypothesis on Pokemon

OK hear me out on this idea.....I think the reason I love Pokemon is that it is so therapeutic for me. Since i began my Pokemon career the 3rd day after red and blue was released i have loved it. I don't much care for all of the arguments that I have red on first gen pokemon vs later gen pokemon, I just love playing them all. I'm not particularly good at it either, i don't train my pokemon to 100, i don't battle over wi-fi or any of that. I simply just love playing the game, beating it and then beating it again. In summation I believe that pokemon may be my "happy place". I have a feeling that it might be for many others as well. Life burns us all out and sometimes we need something we can turn to that is constant and is good for us. Pokemon is one of those things to me. For instance, my grandma who I was very close to passed away a year ago today. After I found out she passed I came home from college to be with my family. When everyone went to bed i stayed up another 10 hours watching 20 straight episodes of the first season of pokemon. Sure, I know many consider the anime to be too kiddy or whatever, but it sure always makes me feel better, same with the games. I want to know if anyone else feels the same way. haha and sorry for the length of this post, thanks for reading it all.

Yes, we all have a place like that, but some of ours are affected by the environment around us.

i have to agree with you on this one. not saying that pokemon is my happy place or anything like that, but after recently playing Pokemon Stadium and Pokemon Snap, and watching the very first season, it brings back a lot of good memories and has inspired me to collect all of the original cards

i feel the exact same way. but even though i don't ocus on training my pokémon to lvl 100 or battle over wi-fi or anything, i still try to learn as much as possible, at the same time as i'm enjoying it c:

Wow. You just made me have an epiphany...

    SUPER EPIPHANY OF GROOVINESS MAN!!

Seriously though. I've never considered there to be a "Happy Place" for me. In fact I always thought that was sort of childish. But you are right. My happy place is probably Azalea Town, Johto. The place where I explore a new village with my Quilava and Mareep. You are right. Most people who like Pokemon enough to regularly post on a forum about it must have something Pokemon-Related as a happy place. You know, a while back I went bowling, and I imagined myself hanging out with a Charmander. You are not going to believe this but this is absolutely true. Then I got a strike!!

Absolutely, a place where everyone can share the same interests. :] A lot of things have similar effects on different kinds of people, we just were lucky enough for it to be something so damned enjoyable.

Wow, Pokemon is a happy place for me too! I play it since red and when i'm down i just pick one pokemon game and pass it again. Same as the tv episodes or movies.

We've all got something we can go back to and just feel...happy. The reason I joined this forum was because of that. I missed how open and exciting life seemed back when I was really young (the initial run of red/blue) and all of the friends I had and just...how good times were back then. I know a lot of people here frown at the nostalgia-freaks but that's why I'm a part of this forum and why I even pay attention to Pokemon anymore.

The reason I even got back into pokemon again recently is because I miss the, relaxation I got from playing, and all the memories of when I was young playing these games for the first time. Those memories are priceless to me, and playing pokemon and coming here bring them back so vividly.

ITT: We all post our own realizations.

Isn't that why everyone plays/does anything? Because they enjoy it.

personally i think there is more to pokemon for me than just enjoying it. I enjoy playing Forza 3, and i enjoy playing modern warfare 2, but pokemon actually puts me in a better mood and brightens my day.

    I MOST DEFINITELY AGREE!

first of all, i'm sorry to hear about your grandma man

anyways, i read your post, and i can relate to what you are talking about because even though i can't stand the anime, i am a really lousy player, i usually play with pokémon i like rather than good ones, and i'm not interested in training my pokémon up to lv100 or breeding; i just like playing the game, beating the elite 4, and starting over…

like you said, i think it might be therapeutic for me as well, it allows my mind to work in an age where thinking does not include imagining

Yup.I agree.Although my happy place is kinda complicated.
    Basically, I do this:

1.Play "House of the Rising Sun" on my guitar
2.Put on "Falling Down" by Muse, on we7 on my laptop
    3.Play pokemon Emerald.

I just started with Platinum, seeing how growing up my mom never let me get into it.
I used to think it was weird, but after my friend told me to get the game I've loved it since.
And now I've played every main Pokemon game created.
I really don't care what other guys think about Pokemon, but I really like it.
They only think it's dumb because of the TV show, but if they would actually play the games.....

I was a late bloomer into Pokemon, starting with Fire Red, but I've come to see that Pokemon is something that many people find to be their way of escaping.

I personally love Pokemon because of collecting them, as Ash would say, "Catch 'em all!".

(I did the same thing you did, watching the first 20 episodes for 10 hours just a few days ago. :P)
