    Now that username changes have returned, it may become hard to track different people when there usernames keep on changing.

    I was wondering if a plugin noting all the name changes in a user name that would be shown in a field or a drop-down menu in a userpage. Maybe a thread notifying all the name changes would be possible as well.

    So, does anyone else think this is a good idea?
     
    Whilst I agree it would be good to have a log (just to keep track of who is who) it's also a strain on the admins doing it.

    If there is a plugin that'll handle it automatically though, sounds great.
     
    I was actually going to delete this after I realised there was a log, but I guess making a automatic plug in rather than typing it would help speed up the process and would allow for more username changes.
     
    If you go on your "Statistics" tab on your profile, you can see your username change history there, as well as the time it was changed, and which admin changed it for you.
     
    Yeah, I believe that would be a good idea. Keeping up with all of these new usernames could become confusing.

    It may be hard to implement though.
     
    I wasn't around when name changes were actually a thing (well, before now that is :D), but apparently there used to be a feature, where the old usernames of a member would appear, if you hovered your mouse over their username in a thread, but disappeared when the AKA sections were added to the drop-down menu? In any case, I think this'd be a good idea, if not just narrowing it down to the previously used username, since going to the statistics page is gonna be extremely tiring for each new member, if you can't recognize them by their theme/posts :p

    I mentioned in the announcement thread, that I thought it'd be a good idea to automatically add the old username to the AKA list, but I think the above would be much better. And if you had it before, isn't it just a matter of digging up the old code? Unless name changes are carried out differently now. In any case, sounds like it should hopefully be doable :)
     
    Seems like you guys beat me to it, as I accidentally posted a thread with this very suggestion. I hear something is already in the works but I wanted to voice my support here and give you a big yes! I like Olli's ideas a lot, too!
     
    I'm pretty sure the Statistics tab log is automatic? Or at least it seems consistent enough to be so.

    Yeah, it seems so, but the problem is more that we have to go to the statistics tab to figure out who someone is. I doubt it'll really be as much of a problem once the hype about the name changes has gone down a bit, but right now it'd really be appreciated if we could simply hover over/click on someone's username to find out who they previously were, when so many people are getting name changes :p
     
    The username change request thread pretty much functions as a log already.

    I do really like the idea of putting back past username(s) when you hover a username in a post and rather moving the current aka list to the profile page. If you want to know the nickname of a person, you can probably take your time to visit their profile. If you just want to clarify who someone is in a thread though, hovering to see past usernames is much more useful.

    Well, I did actually PM Ausaudriel a while back suggesting that he'd put in the first post form that people should write "current username" as well as "requested name change". But maybe he didn't see it or didn't think it was a good idea :p From what I recall, the oooold name change thread worked like that anyways.

    That would have been great, just kinda late now ;~;
     
    Well, there will still always be people changing their names. Maybe not with a boom, but better to implement it as soon as possible, if more people agrees that it's useful :3
